Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.

Context:

IOM’s Donor Relations Division (DRD) seeks to strengthen and diversify IOM’s collaboration with donors and partners on IOM programmes and new strategic initiatives. It provides the field with institutional guidance and tools to identify donor priorities and match them with ongoing and future IOM programmes. It is also the Division responsible for the implementation of IOM’s Private Sector Partnerships strategy.

The Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Unit of DRD provides Headquarters, Regional and Country Offices with assistance and expertise relating to initiating, establishing and maintaining partnerships with the private sector, in order to fully utilize the benefits of such partnerships.

The PSP Unit contributes to the development of strategies, policies, mechanisms and systems to ensure the interests of the Organization are served best. It leads the coordination of IOM’s due diligence process, carries out risk assessments on prospective private sector partners. The PSP Unit assists organizational units in circumstances requiring technical and operational assistance by coordinating and organizing joint programmes and initiatives targeting the private sector, taking into account that some situations may necessitate inter-regional and interdepartmental coordination. It additionally develops, implements and coordinates training activities, workshops, symposiums and learning products; carries out research and surveys, studies and publish reports related to private sector partnerships; and plans, develops and implements individual giving campaigns. The PSP Unit furthermore identifies possible private sector partners for the Organization through production of mapping reports, outlining strategic thematic areas of interest, compatibilities with IOM’s values and priorities; and supports the selection and nomination of Goodwill Ambassadors.

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Donor Relations Division and direct supervision of the Head of the Private Sector Partnerships Unit, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of long-term partnerships with the private sector in order to advocate the work of IOM and mobilize resources to support IOM’s development and humanitarian programmes.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Works closely with the Head of PSP Unit in the implementation of IOM’s Private Sector Partnerships Strategy (2021-2023) and its Action Plan.
  2. Coordinates IOM’s due diligence process for private sector partners including the production of partnership risk assessments.
  3. Contributes to the identification, establishment and maintenance of relationships with private sector partners.
  4. Actively participates in the development, implementation and coordination of training activities and learning products for Headquarters, Regional and Country Office staff to better engage with the private sector.
  5. Assists Headquarters, Regional and Country Offices in developing their respective private sector partnerships plans in alignment with IOM’s Private Sector Partnerships Strategy (2021-2023) and its Action Plan.
  6. Supports the development of presentations, reports, analyses on IOM’s engagement with the private sector.
  7. Assist external communications, including contributing to the development of letters, e-mails, presentations, talking points, and visibility materials.
  8. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in International Relations, Business Administration, Marketing, Social Sciences, Law, Development Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• Knowledge and practical experience with implementation of multi-stakeholder initiatives with international organizations, preferably involving the private sector;

• Experience in outreach and communication to companies, foundations, and individuals as well as private sector fora and platforms;

• Demonstrable experience of developing and delivering participatory trainings, workshops and panels;

• Experience in corporate communication an advantage.

Skills

• Demonstrated donor and stakeholder orientation, networking and relationship-building skills; with IOM and ideally in the field, is desirable.

• Ability to work independently and to meet tight deadlines.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
