Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Programs Coordinator or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Communication Officer will:
1. Gather, draft and disseminate public information on IOM activities, both in writing and verbally.
2. Draft, edit and produce public information materials for IOM press briefing notes, regular newsletters, website and social media in clear and concise English, and facilitate appropriate gender awareness in all IOM communications.
3. Draft human-interest stories and press briefing notes highlighting IOM Romania’s achievements and impact in coordination with IOM’s regional office in Brussels.
4. Provide logistical and administrative support for the implementation of communication campaigns and community mobilization activities.
5. Support with editing reports and publications as instructed.
6. Support production of audiovisual content including photos and videos, using IOM’s digital communication tools and templates.
7. Contribute to building the capacity of IOM staff and partners on migration-related communications and media engagement.
8. Support the layout and graphic design of communication materials, including reports, posters for social media and other campaigns.
9. Contribute to the development and dissemination of appropriate awareness raising, communicating with communities and media resources for crisis-affected communities in specific country contexts.
10. Draft and exhibit content to showcase IOM activities at external events.
11. Undertake duty travel as required.
12. Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Results/expected outputs:
• As an active IOM team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to IOM and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:
• Review and recommend changes for external communications from IOM missions to facilitate high donor visibility.
• Collaborate closely with field staff to produce content in the form of human-interest stories from the field, photographs and video clips for an international audience.
• Contribute to the timely and efficient publication and distribution of media content on the global website iom.int, country websites and via other IOM media channels, websites, social media etc.
• Provide various inputs on IOM activities and events for IOM’s social media presence on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other online networks.
• Update and post content to relevant social media accounts on daily/weekly basis.
• Liaise with media counterparts in governmental and non-governmental partner agencies on weekly basis.
• Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment.
• A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.
