Description of the context and the project: VIS – Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo (International Volunteering for Development) is a non-governmental organization active since 1986 in the fields of development cooperation and global citizenship education. Inspired by the charism of Don Bosco, it works in more than 30 countries through development and emergency response projects, in partnership with the Salesian network, civil society, and public institutions.
In Côte d’Ivoire, VIS will open a new permanent office in Abidjan in 2025, promoting initiatives to foster local development and create economic opportunities for young people, with a focus on vocational training, job placement, and support for self-employment. Particular attention will be paid to vulnerable youth, including girls, migrants, returning migrants, and people with disabilities.
The project “CASA Cooperazione al Servizio dell’Apprendimento in Costa d’Avorio” (in English: CASA Cooperation in the Service of Learning in Ivory Coast), lasting 36 months and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), is part of this strategy and aims to improve the Ivorian education system in order to offer all children and adolescents quality, equitable and inclusive education and training, capable of generating opportunities for social inclusion and well-being, in line with Sustainable Development Goals 4 (targets 4.1, 4.2, 4.4, 4.6, 4.7, 4.a, 4.c) and 8 (target 8.5). The project aims to create an educational alliance between the different local communities and the 20 schools in the municipalities of Treichville, Cocody, Anyama and Koumassi (Abidjan), in order to promote a school model that defines education as learning, that works on transversal skills and that embraces digital transformation by focusing on gender issues, disability and special educational needs, and that offers the most vulnerable young people concrete opportunities for academic, social and professional growth based on equality and equity, in accordance with the Ivorian government’s Education/Training Sector Plan 2016-2025 .
The project partnership comprises FADV (lead CSO) and VIS (Italian CSO) in ATS, Salesians of Don Bosco, REMAR-CI, the NGO Femmes de Valeurs, RESAFEL, and the Practical School of the Ivorian Chamber of Commerce (EPCCI). It also benefits from a partnership with the Ivorian Ministry of Women, Family and Children (MFFE) and the Ivorian Chamber of Commerce (CCI)*. The intervention lasts 36 months and reaches a total of 11,730 direct beneficiaries.
Main responsibilities and objectives:
Responsible for the accounting and administrative management of the Abidjan office, he/she contributes to the proper maintenance of accounts, compliance with the entity’s and donor’s administrative procedures, and the preparation of the documentation necessary for reporting. The position is based in Abidjan and involves constant collaboration with the local team, particularly the project manager – and the regional (West Africa) team.
- Record and classify expenses in accordance with the project’s accounting plans.
- Collect, verify and archive supporting documentation for expenses in accordance with VIS and donor (AICS) guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with the administrative and accounting procedures stipulated in the project and partnership agreements.
- Collaborate in the preparation of documentation for periodic and final project reports.
- Assist in the management of local cash flow and bank accounts related to the project.
- Participate in internal control activities and support any audits that may be required.
- Work with the project team to control the budget and ensure compliance with financial constraints.
Requirements:
Knowledge and skills:
- Diploma or degree in economics, accounting, administration or related fields, obtained at least five years ago;
- Possession of certificates attesting to participation in administration courses in the field of international cooperation is desirable;
- At least three years of experience in accounting or administrative roles;
- Proven experience in the accounting management of projects funded by institutional donors (preferably AICS or equivalent);
- Excellent knowledge of project accounting and NGO administrative procedures.
- Familiarity with accounting management tools.
- Ability to read and understand financial documents in French.
- Knowledge of institutional donor reporting systems.
- Proficiency in Italian is an asset
- Native-level fluency in French (written and spoken)

Working conditions
- Work location: Abidjan
- 12-month local contract in accordance with VIS contract policy
