Country Director Myanmar At Muslim Aid

Due to the current travel restrictions, applicants will ideally need to be based in Myanmar, as this role will not be able to be carried outside the country for a long period of time.

Who we are?

MA-UK faith-based international development organisation that provides support to communities around the world affected by disasters, conflict or endemic poverty without regard to their social, religious or ethnic background.

Established in 1985, MA-UK has facilitated the engagement of the British Muslim and non-Muslim community in support of its work in a variety of ways. Over the years, its humanitarian work has included responses to major crises around the world including, famine in East Africa, earthquakes and flooding in Pakistan and Bangladesh as well as conflicts in Syria and Yemen.

We place strong emphasis on long-term development projects that build the capacity of local people helping themselves. In addition to the 5 country offices worldwide we also work with multiple partner offices focusing on sustainable development Programmes and providing humanitarian relief during times of crisis.

Summary of Role

The Country Director will provide dynamic leadership and management to develop and deliver MA-UK ‘s strategy in Myanmar, with a focus on leading and building a high-performing, diverse team and developing strong relationships with external stakeholders that are critical to the organisation’s growth and reputation in the country.

About the Role

The main responsibilities of this role will be to:

  1. To ensure the country office’s programme strategy is responding to the country’s critical development and humanitarian needs, and is also aligned to organisation’s global strategy, mission and values.
  2. To enhance MA-UK’s reputation and brand through maintaining positive relationships with other stakeholders, including government, donors, UN bodies, other INGOs, and local NGOs.
  3. To build and maintain positive and professional relationships with existing and potential partners.
  4. To seek new funding opportunities through in-country and external relationship building including with bilateral and multilateral development partners, embassies and high-net individuals.
  5. Organise successful audits of any donor funded programme which is audited by external auditors of donor agencies in consultation HQ.
  6. Maintain an overview of the political and security context, noting how developments may affect programme work. To ensure regular reporting to the UK office on these matters.

About you

To be successful in this role you will need to have:

  1. Understanding of the drivers of poverty and a first-hand understanding of Myanmar.
  2. Proven experience of working in a country director or other senior level leadership/management position in an INGO environment.
  3. Considerable experience of international development work, including project or programme management.
  4. Experience of multiple donor grant management and reporting to major donors.
  5. Experience of networking with key stakeholders particularly for fundraising and influencing.
  6. Experience of working with organisations in developing countries, ideally in South and Southeast Asia.
  7. Experience of multiple donor grant management and reporting to major donors.
