General context of the project
INTERSOS has been present in Chad since 2004 with projects in the sectors of food security, protection, health and nutrition, and also WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) for the benefit of internally displaced persons in the Lake Chad region and Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad. After a break in activities in 2016, INTERSOS resumed its work in 2017. The areas on which INTERSOS Chad focuses its interventions are primarily the following: Protection through strengthening an environment conducive to the promotion and protection of human rights, and more specifically those of children and women, through the establishment of Child-Friendly Spaces, the management of gender-based violence cases, the restoration of social cohesion, community rehabilitation, as well as access to water, hygiene and sanitation, food security, and health/nutrition.
The position is based at the lake, in an isolated operational environment with limited infrastructure and significant logistical constraints, requiring an experienced profile capable of working with a high degree of autonomy.
General objective of the position
The Nutrition Project Manager is responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring, and quality of nutrition activities within the project. They ensure the proper integration of nutrition into the multisectoral approach (food security, WASH, protection) and adherence to humanitarian standards.
The project manager ensures constant engagement between the various support services in order to implement the project.
Responsible for the budget for the entire project, closely supervises/monitors financial planning, cash flow planning and budget utilization, as well as monitoring the consumption rate.
Financial/budgetary management is the final responsibility of the project manager for the specific project and he/she must ensure that this goes hand in hand with a logical framework and an appropriate work plan.
Main responsibilities and tasks
Project management
- Plan and coordinate nutritional activities (IMCI, malnutrition prevention, etc.)
- Develop and monitor work plans, budgets, and timelines.
- Ensure the achievement of the project’s objectives and indicators
- Adapt interventions according to the evolving context (travel, insecurity, access)
Technical implementation
- Supervise activities related to the management of acute malnutrition
- Ensure compliance with national protocols and standards (SPHERE, WHO, UNICEF)
- Ensuring the technical quality of nutritional interventions
- Integrating protection- and gender-sensitive approaches
Coordination and representation
- Participate in nutrition cluster meetings and other sector groups
- Ensure coordination with local health authorities
- Collaborating with humanitarian and community partners
- Represent the organization at the local level if necessary
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)
- Establish and monitor performance indicators
- Oversee the collection, analysis and validation of data
- Produce regular reports (internal and donors – OCHA)
- Ensuring accountability to beneficiaries
Team management
- To guide and supervise the project team (Nutrition activity managers, supervisors, community workers)
- Strengthen the team’s technical capabilities
- Participate in the recruitment and evaluation of staff
- Ongoing coaching of field teams to work on the quality of delivery.
- Manages and evaluates the performance of project staff.
- Organize weekly and monthly meetings with the team to review the plan and discuss key concerns to focus on for the coming period.
- Continuous/rapid verification of the quality of data collected and received from field staff.
- Ensure that teams respect INTERSOS’ mission rules and guidelines and adhere to INTERSOS’ code of conduct and values charter.
Logistics and financial management
- Plan for nutritional input needs (RUTF, medications, equipment)
- Monitor the project budget in collaboration with finance
- Ensure the efficient use of resources
- Prepare, monitor and implement the financial and supply plan
- Prepare the financial plan
- Approval of all purchases/contracts and budget line allocations
- Verify the accounting entries in the INTERSOS accounting spreadsheets (JOURNAL): check the allocations of budget lines, the status of budget expenditures against actual delivery, and the financial plan for the remaining project implementation period.
- Ensure that for all purchases/contracts of goods/services/supplies, the correct INTERSOS procurement guidelines are applied and properly documented, in coordination with the finance and logistics departments.
- Review the list of expenses before finalizing the interim and final financial reports.
- Assumes final responsibility for verifying the completeness and accuracy of all supporting documentation.
Reports
- Ensure quality reporting on achievements through brief daily briefings, monthly and weekly planning presented in relation to weekly and monthly performance reports containing clear quantitative and qualitative information related to activities.
- Obtain regular team reports and compile, review and analyze the reports on a monthly basis which will be reflected in the INTERSOS project evaluation tool.
- Prepare ad hoc progress reports for donors and interim and final project reports as required by officials; Prepare timely and qualitatively interim and final narrative reports for the donor, reviewing achievements against results and outputs, and clearly reflecting lessons learned in recommendations for future programs.
- Assumes final responsibility for all supporting documents (verification methods) and general project documents.
- Regularly provides communication materials (including photos) on the project for use by INTERSOS’s communication department at various points of sale.
Coordination and representation
- Assist the program coordinator and technical coordinators in attending group meetings and ensure that highlights and information relevant to the intervention area are reported in a timely manner.
- Participate in regular meetings with donor representatives and facilitate field visits by donor missions (when security conditions permit), in coordination with the program coordinator.
- Ensure the systematic sharing of information and updates with the Coordinator/Program Manager
- To perform any other related tasks that may be assigned to him/her.
Required profile
Education
- University degree in project management, nutrition, public health, medicine or related field.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in managing humanitarian projects/programs
- Experience in managing nutrition programs (emergency response preferred)
- Experience in a similar context (Sahel, Lake Chad Basin) is highly desirable

According to the Country of assignment
Salary: The monthly remuneration for each position is defined according to the INTERSOS international standard salary grid and function grid, taking into account the selected candidate’s experience. It is communicated during the HR interview, or at any rate during the first stage of the selection process.
Transportation: Round-trip flights for the humanitarian worker and partner. For any mission lasting at least 12 months, after 9 months, an additional flight ticket to the Country of residence and return to the mission is covered by the Organisation for the humanitarian worker. In the Accompanied duty stations, also for the partner. In Family Duty Stations, also for dependents.
Medical insurance: Injuries and death insurance; civil liability insurance, reimbursement for vaccines, medical certificate and PCR test for deployment; psychosocial support on request for the humanitarian worker and dependents. In the Accompanied duty stations, also for the partner. In Family Duty Stations, also for dependents.

Induction: Online orientation course: each new staff member receives preparatory training before departure, adequate to provide the necessary information related to the structure of INTERSOS and the main decision-making processes and working tools, in order to facilitate entry into the Organisation.
Note 1: INTERSOS applies a “Learning & Development Policy” which includes the possibility to receive capacitation and participate in internal and external training. Priority will be given to Staff working for INTERSOS for over two years.
Note 2: The categorisation of Family, Non-Family, and Accompanied Duty stations is subject to security criteria, access to health and education services, and is non-negotiable.
Accommodation
Shared accommodation in a Guesthouse is provided in Field duty stations. In the Accompanied duty stations and Family duty stations, there is also the option of reimbursement of part of the accommodation cost and a flat allowance for installation expenses. In Family duty stations, there is also a contribution to school fees for dependent children.
R&R
INTERSOS staff required to work for extended periods at duty stations under hazardous, stressful and difficult conditions are granted a regular and mandatory period of Rest and Recuperation (R&R). This is due to protecting their health and well-being and ensuring optimal work performance upon the resumption of their duties, while, at the same time, preserving the operational readiness of the Organisation. R&R benefits are not financial compensation for the degree of hardship and insecurity of a duty station. Eligibility: staff members recruited as international field staff whose contract states one R&R Duty Station as the main Duty Station and whose contract duration is equal to or longer than 4 calendar months. R&R: it consists of 7 days of psycho-physical recovery every 8/12 weeks, depending on the duty station. A €1000 allowance is associated with it.
