Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has treated more than 10 million patients and currently operates in 12 African countries. In 2020, we developed 67 humanitarian medical response projects to address the needs of populations affected by conflict, epidemics, and extreme poverty. All of these projects are carried out in support of national health authorities through 357 health facilities (including 45 hospitals and 312 health centers). We work in partnership, particularly with local NGOs, whenever possible to ensure that our patients benefit from expertise wherever it is found, whether in their own country or elsewhere in the world. Furthermore, to improve the humanitarian response, we conduct operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the areas of combating malnutrition and viral hemorrhagic fevers. ALIMA is also conducting operations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic across all of our missions.
OUR PROJECT THEMES: Malnutrition, Sexual and reproductive health including gender-based violence, Primary and secondary health, surgery, pediatric care, deadly diseases such as Malaria, ARI, Diarrhea, Epidemics (Hemorrhagic fevers, meningitis, Cholera, Measles, Dengue, Covid-19).
OUR COUNTRIES OF INTERVENTION: Mali, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Guinea, South Sudan, Mauritania, Haiti, Ethiopia and Sudan.
ALIMA in Haiti
In November, ALIMA conducted an exploratory mission to Haiti to better understand current needs, specifically in Port-au-Prince. Given ALIMA’s mission, we focused on humanitarian health needs, identifying the most vulnerable populations and the obstacles restricting access to healthcare services. Our assessments revealed a critical need for healthcare professionals and a strong desire to intervene as early as possible in 2024. A team traveled to Haiti in February to launch operations. Drawing on its experience, ALIMA deployed mobile clinics in neighborhoods of the capital, such as Cité Soleil, as well as in displacement sites, notably at Champ de Mars and Delmas. Thanks to its community acceptance and the relevance of its interventions to the population’s real needs, ALIMA is now beginning a phase of establishing a permanent presence, particularly in the municipalities of Cité Soleil and Croix-de-Bouquet.
In 2025, in response to the multiple crises affecting southeastern Haiti, ALIMA is strengthening its presence in the municipalities of Belle-Anse and Anse-Ã -Pitres. The objective is to reduce morbidity and mortality among displaced, deported, and host populations through three priority areas of intervention:
- Improving access to care: ALIMA supports the provision of primary, pediatric, and emergency obstetric healthcare, while ensuring appropriate medical and psychological support for survivors of gender-based violence, with suitable referral mechanisms. This component also includes the rehabilitation of healthcare infrastructure.
- Prevention and treatment of malnutrition: Integrated nutrition services to ensure free care for children suffering from acute malnutrition, whether severe or moderate.
- Rapid response to emergencies: A contextual monitoring system will be put in place to allow the investigation of alerts within 24 hours, thus guaranteeing a rapid and appropriate response to emerging needs.
PROTECTION OF BENEFICIARIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS
Level 3: The incumbent is responsible for implementing the recruitment process and may be required to conduct field visits. They may therefore come into contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. Consequently, a criminal record check or a certificate of good conduct will be required. In situations where it is impossible to provide a criminal record check or a certificate of good conduct, a sworn statement will be requested.
