About us:

The Omran Center is a public policy think tank and development center, established in 2013 and currently headquartered in Damascus. It forms the knowledge-policy program of the Syrian Forum, an independent, non-governmental organization working on Syrian affairs. The Center’s work extends beyond producing knowledge and policy papers; it directly contributes to designing practical and applicable policy solutions that support decision-makers in addressing complex security, development, political, and social challenges. The Center fulfills its role by producing in-depth and cumulative analyses, fostering societal dialogue, and engaging technically with state institutions and stakeholders, thereby contributing to stability, state-building, institutional effectiveness, and community empowerment. The Center operates through a broad network of researchers and experts both within and outside Syria, engaging professionally and technically with state institutions and decision-makers, which strengthens its role in developing public policies and supporting the national transformation process.

First: Job objective

The research assistant plays a pivotal role in supporting the research process under the supervision of the principal investigators. They participate in data collection and conduct preliminary research for studies and reports included in the center’s research plan. They also contribute to the preparation of research outputs and offer suggestions for effective ideas, plans, and programs to enhance the impact of the research. In addition, the research assistant undertakes a range of research and administrative tasks that support project implementation and ensure the efficient and high-quality progress of research.

Second: Job Information

  • Location: Vacancies within the governorates of Damascus and Aleppo.
  • Start date: Live.
  • Probation period: 3 months.
  • Commitment: Full-time employment.

Third: Tasks and Duties

Initial monitoring, coordination, and analysis:

  • Collecting information, recording data, and conducting statistical and research analyses.
  • Creating charts and spreadsheets and exporting results
  • Data entry, organizing questionnaires, and participating in tracking survey processes.
  • Building a monitoring map, supplying it with supporting sources, and updating it periodically.

Contributing to research activities:

  • Assistance in preparing presentations related to showcasing outputs.
  • Attending and leading focus groups, workshops, and research seminars, and facilitating their discussions;
  • Preparing summaries of the results of workshops, seminars, or studies.
  • The possibility of media appearances and representing the institution in coordination with the supervising researcher.

Research tasks:

  • Conducting research interviews contributes to enriching the research material with more sources and references.
  • Preparing research papers, articles, studies, and reports.
  • The possibility of traveling locally and internationally as required by work requirements.

Fourth: Academic qualifications

Holds a bachelor’s degree in one of the relevant disciplines: (Political Science and International Relations / Economics Colleges / Humanities and Social Sciences).

Fifth: Professional and basic competencies

  • Effective communication skills, ability to work within multiple teams, and effective time management and organization.
  • Advanced analytical skills in data collection, analysis, and database management, with knowledge of research concepts and tools.
  • The ability to research, study, analyze, and prepare reports.
  • Creativity, continuous learning, technological awareness, and proficiency in using office software.
  • Proficiency in both Arabic and English.
