Purpose of the function
As our Global Strategic Advisor, Research, you will be responsible for overseeing VVOB’s research agenda and initiatives, and for developing and strengthening VVOB’s evidence-based practices. As a member of VVOB’s programmes team, the Global Strategic Advisor, Research will work closely with the Global Strategic Education Advisors and the Global Strategic Advisor, M&E at head office, and with relevant staff in different VVOB country offices, to advance VVOB’s research on education programmes and to strengthen M&E systems for better evidence generation.
Who are you?
Your expertise and experience
• You have a PhD in education, economics, or social science; or a Masters’ Degree in education, economics, or social science with at least 5 years of demonstrated experience in education research.
• You have knowledge of statistical techniques and practical experience with statistical software and experience in assessing the reliability and validity of measures.
• You have experience in both qualitative and quantitative research.
• You have published research in relevant international peer-reviewed journals.
• You have knowledge of and/or experience with monitoring and evaluation is an asset.
• You possess excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in a multi-cultural environment and to external audiences.
• You have a strong interest in and ability to think and plan at the ‘big picture’ level.
• You have experience with conducting research in low- and middle-income countries.
• You are eligible to work under a national employment contract in Belgium, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia or Kenya

• An attractive salary (meaning a monthly gross salary between €3,754.67 and €5,796.16 depending on relevant professional experience for positions based in Belgium. If based in a Country Office outside of Belgium the gross salary will be multiplied by the host country cost index (provided by Eurocost)), additional net allowances, hospitalisation insurance and an attractive package according to the national legislation.
