The ICRC Regional Delegation in Bangkok seeks to fill the following position:
Physiotherapist, based in Chiang Mai
We are looking for a spirited team player with a can-do attitude to join our dynamic team.
The Physiotherapist (PT) contributes to implementing, running and monitoring the health programme(s) in cooperation with the health team, according to the objectives set out in the delegation’s annual planning (Planning for Results) for a specific geographic area or field of activities. Based on the skills required for this position, s/he delivers PT related services with autonomy (e.g. hospital settings) and contributes actively to planning and coordinating health activities at field level.
Under the supervision of the Head of Sub Delegation (SD) in Chiang Mai and the Health Project Manager (HPM) in Bangkok, develops and maintains a thorough understanding of the ICRC Weapon Wounded Assistance Programme (WWAP), of its dynamics related to the provision of life-saving surgical care and rehabilitation care for the victims of the Eastern Myanmar’s conflict(s) and the functioning of the national health systems in Thailand and Myanmar. The PT will contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the ICRC Weapon Wounded Assistance Programme, which consists of financial support to weapon-wounded from Myanmar to receive surgical and physical rehabilitation care in Thai health structures.
He/she will be participating in visits to patients admitted in health facilities and play an active role with the relevant local authorities and the many stakeholders for on site interventions. The PT may also assist the health team and the office in Chiang Mai in organizing health-related activities, such as training sessions in coordination with respective beneficiaries and institutions in Thailand and Eastern Myanmar.
The position will be based in Chiang Mai and will require frequent travel to hospitals, clinics, prosthetic centres in the North of Thailand.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Case management and other WWAP activities
- The PT with support of HFO (Health Field Officer), carries medical assessment and interviews with the patient to collect relevant information including medical history.
- The PT will provide acute and follow up physiotherapy interventions at MoPH hospital interventions, fractures, wound and soft tissue injuries, neurological conditions etc.), based on an agreed schedule and acceptance of MoPH hospital Surgeons and PTs.
- Identify means to access / provide physical rehabilitation services, mainly related to mobility devices, for persons with permanent movement related disabilities / severe movement restrictions.
- Assess and provide physical rehabilitation services, mainly mobility devices, for persons with permanent movement related disabilities / severe movement restrictions.
- Guide partner care givers/ physiotherapy related staff in provision of mobility devices.
- Propose recommendations and improvements regarding equipment, patient flow, work organization and procedures.
- Develop clear treatment protocols aimed towards functional outcomes.
- Ensure individuals in need of assistive devices acquire both pre and post device PT interventions. Accordingly, facilitate and support P&O interventions where necessary.
- Empower local PT and P&O counterparts for increased support in PT related activities for physical rehabilitation interventions.
- Is responsible for physiotherapy materials, assistive devices for ADL needs: Plan annual and supplementary forecast material needs (toilet seats, walking frames, slide boards etc).
- The PT manages the cases for further treatment and/or the referral to hospitals and orthopaedic rehabilitation centres, ensuring the complete follow up of the clinical case and continuum of care.
- The PT will work with the patients and caregivers to ensure the patients are involved in their care plan and receive necessary support and advice.
- The PT contributes to the organization of training sessions (e.g., PRP, first aid, trauma, and emergency care) when required by the program and in close coordination with various ICRC departments and relevant local institutions.
- The PT reports to the HFO (B3) daily but is managed for technical activities by the HPM and support from Regional PRP Specialist.
Networking and coordination
- He/she contributes to the understanding of the health situation and assess the access to healthcare for ICRC target groups.
- PT maintains the working relationships and ensures coordination with relevant medical and non-medical actors in Thailand and Myanmar (authorities, I/NGOs).
Analysis & Reporting
- PT plays an active role in the analysis of the humanitarian situation in Eastern Myanmar.
- Under the supervision of ICRC blue and red lines, he/she contributes to narrative, analytical and financial health reporting (QHTR, PMT and other relevant institutional reporting and monitoring tools);
- He/she keeps comprehensive up-to-date records of relevant electronic databases and physical filing, including the Medical Activities Database (MAD) (in coordination with BAN Health);
Other health activities
- Upon request of ICRC supervisors, PT may participate and give his/her contribution in detention visits and other health-related activities across Thailand
Administration and Logistics
- PT complies with the required administrative and logistical procedures and requests.
- He/she coordinates with ICRC logistical department on supply of medical items when needed.
YOUR PROFILE:
- Recognized university qualification in Physiotherapy: BSC in Physiotherapy
- Thai Registered and Licensed
- Minimum 2 years work experience in hospital setting; At least one year experience in surgical trauma care.
- Understanding and knowledge of the Thai national health care system and fundamentals of public health.
- Strong motivation for humanitarian work and sense of responsibility
- Availability to travel and work in north-western Thailand, and the rest of Thailand
- Previous experience in humanitarian work would be an asset
- Self-supporting in computers (Windows, spreadsheets, word-processing)
- Strong skills in general administration, oral and written reporting in Thai and English
- Sound understanding of political, social and cultural factors in the Thai and Eastern Myanmar contexts
- Very good command of written and spoken English and Thai
- Knowledge of Karen, Burmese languages would be an asset
