As the Financial Specialist – Special Projects and Major Grants WFP & UNOCHA youwill be responsible for overseeing financial planning, budgeting, and reporting for WFP and UNOCHA-funded projects across North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri, ensuring resources are managed efficiently and in compliance with donor and organizational requirements. It involves leading budget development and revisions, producing accurate forecasts, and ensuring timely fund disbursement to partners while maintaining up-to-date financial records in systems. The position emphasizes strong financial oversight through regular reconciliations, expenditure tracking, and performance analysis, including monitoring key accounts and project spending against outputs. It also includes coordinating partner reporting, conducting financial spot checks, resolving reporting issues, and managing PBAS commitments and credit SAs. Additionally, the role ensures data accuracy, supports audits and donor reviews, enforces compliance standards, and collaborates closely with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders to promote accountability, transparency, and effective financial management.
Requirements include:
- First degree in Accounting or Finance. A professional qualification such as ACCA or CIMA will be an advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in a grant management role in NGO environment. Experience in WFP and UNOCHA projects management is an added advantage.
- In-depth working knowledge of accounting software packages, especially Sun Systems, Vision XL and Vision Executive.
- Excellent computer literacy skills, especially in MS Excel.
- In-depth working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the WVI FPP.
- In-depth working knowledge of grant accounting.
- Knowledge of how to prepare, review, and present financial statements and financial reports.
- Able to perform complex financial analyses
- Able to articulate and communicate ideas well verbally and in writing
