How can you make a difference? Key functions / Responsibilities

The Protection Officer is responsible for coordinating and implementing the activities of the Venezuelan Red Cross (CRV) Protection area, which encompasses the approaches of Migration, Gender and Inclusion (PGI), Restoring Family Links (RFL), and Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA). Their role focuses on ensuring that the principles of dignity, safety, inclusion, and participation are integrated across all CRV humanitarian actions, in coordination with the different program areas and branches.

He/She will be in charge of:

  • Coordinate with the subsidiaries and protection officers, under the guidelines of the Protection Coordination, the implementation of operational and technical activities of the protection components (Migration, PGI, RCF and CEA).
  • Provide technical assistance to CRV subsidiaries for the planning of activities and contextualization of protection strategies, including processes of needs identification, community activities, training, monitoring and feedback.
  • Support in the development, adaptation and dissemination of tools, materials and technical protocols in the area of ​​protection, in conjunction with the Coordination of the area.
  • Coordinate and monitor the implementation of the national training and awareness plan for staff and volunteers on PGI, migration, CEA and RCF issues, according to established plans.
  • Support the identification or design of community participation and feedback (CEA) mechanisms in projects, ensuring that they are accessible and appropriate to the context.
  • Prepare technical reports according to project requirements and the Area Coordination.
  • Coordinate the identification of protection risks in communities and the formulation of adapted responses.
  • Participate in technical coordination spaces on protection, with authorization from the Area Coordination or the Programs Directorate.
  • Technical lead responsible for reviews of financial processes related to requests for funds, materials and supplies and financing of protection projects under the principles and guidelines of the CRV and involved partners.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Protection Coordination and/or the Programs Directorate, which contribute to the fulfillment of institutional objectives.

Report

The Protection Officer will report to the Protection Coordination.

Workplace

Caracas (Headquarters of the Venezuelan Red Cross), with availability to travel nationwide.

To qualify as a builder of the Venezuelan humanitarian system, you must meet the following requirements:

  • University degree in social sciences, law, international relations, social work, or related areas.
  • Minimum experience of three (3) years in issues related to protection, migration, gender, inclusion, community participation or humanitarian response.
  • Knowledge of national and international regulations and standards on human rights, humanitarian protection, gender, inclusion and migration.
  • Experience in facilitating training processes and raising awareness on protection issues.
  • Ability to apply participatory and inclusive methodologies in community and humanitarian contexts.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, systematize information, and handle sensitive data ethically and confidentially.
  • Previous experience in the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement is desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, analytical, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
  • Fluency in Spanish. Basic knowledge of English is desirable.
  • High sense of responsibility, empathy and professional ethics.
