General Coordinator (Head of Mission) (M/F) – Democratic Republic of Congo At Doctors of the World

Do you want to join an activist association and take concrete action for greater social justice?

Doctors of the World has been working for over 40 years to treat the most vulnerable populations, denounce obstacles to access to care and bring about lasting changes in health policies.

In France and in nearly 30 other countries, our actions are structured around six political battles:

  • sexual and reproductive health and rights (including the right to abortion)
  • migration, exile, rights and health
  • risk reduction
  • health and environment
  • rights and the health system
  • humanitarian spaces

Doctors of the World in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Present in the DRC since 1994, Doctors of the World France (MdM) implements health and humanitarian action programs in the provinces of Kinshasa, North Kivu and Tanganyika. Its interventions are structured around three main areas: sexual and reproductive health, environmental health and response to humanitarian emergencies.

In Kinshasa, MdM supports access to family planning, sexual and reproductive health and rights, as well as environmental health prevention initiatives aimed at reducing the impact of pesticides on public health. In the provinces of Tanganyika and North Kivu, the organization works with populations affected by conflict, displacement, and health crises, strengthening access to primary healthcare, sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, and support for victims of gender-based violence. MdM also participates in the response to epidemics (cholera, measles, Ebola).

The organization works closely with Congolese health authorities, national programs of the Ministry of Health, and numerous civil society organizations. In the coming years, MdM plans to develop a cervical cancer prevention program.

In a complex and evolving humanitarian context, marked by significant health and protection needs, the DRC mission continues to develop its emergency and health systems strengthening programs, with the support of several international institutional donors.

Why we need you

You will integrate your leadership into strong partnership dynamics with NGOs, Congolese civil society, health and social authorities and other international actors (UN agencies, donors, etc.) to ensure the implementation of emergency and development programs as well as the advocacy strategy.

In the east of the country, the MdM network has decided to reorganize its geographical distribution to provide broader coverage of the population’s needs. To this end, MdM-Be is based in South Kivu, while MdM-F operates in Tanganyika, North Kivu, and Kinshasa.
