Background
Fire and Rescue Training Centre (Firetrack), located in Kiambu, Kenya and operated by the Polish Center for International Aid (PCPM) Kenya, is a TVETA-registered vocational training institution dedicated to developing practical skills and technical competencies in firefighting, rescue operations, emergency response, industrial safety, and related technical professions.
Through its training programmes, Firetrack works closely with educational institutions, industry partners, government agencies, and local communities to strengthen professional skills development and improve safety standards across Kenya. As part of its long-term sustainability strategy, Firetrack is expanding its commercial operations, training portfolio, consultancy services, and strategic partnerships.
To support this growth, Firetrack is seeking an experienced Head of Commercial Department to lead business development, partnership building, commercialization initiatives, and revenue generation activities.

Scope of Work
The Head of Commercial Department will be responsible for leading and coordinating the commercial development and sustainability strategy of Firetrack.
Key responsibilities include:
• Developing and implementing commercialization and sustainability strategies;
• Identifying and developing new revenue streams and business opportunities;
• Preparing business plans, budgets, revenue forecasts, and implementation frameworks;
• Building partnerships with county governments, private sector companies, NGOs, industries, and educational institutions;
• Expanding commercial training, consultancy, TVET, firefighting, rescue, and industrial safety services;
• Developing partnerships with equipment manufacturers and international training providers;
• Coordinating commercial projects, pilot initiatives, stakeholder engagement activities, and partnership development;
• Supporting marketing, communication, and promotional activities;
• Supervising commercial operations, implementation, and reporting.
Required Areas of Expertise
Applicants should demonstrate significant professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
Firefighting and Rescue Training- Strong understanding of fire and rescue operations, training delivery, and sector development.
Emergency Response and EMT Services – Experience in emergency response systems, medical emergency services, disaster preparedness, or related fields.
Industrial Safety Solutions – Experience working with safety compliance, occupational health and safety, industrial risk management, or related sectors.
TVET and Skills Development – Understanding of vocational education, competency-based training, and workforce development programmes.
Partnerships and Commercial Growth – Proven ability to establish partnerships, identify opportunities, develop services, and support organisational sustainability.
Type of Contract
The selected Candidate will initially be engaged under a Consultancy Agreement for a probationary period of three (3) months.
Subject to satisfactory performance, achievement of agreed objectives, and organisational needs, the consultancy arrangement may be converted into a long-term employment contract.
Requirements
To be eligible for this position, Candidates should meet the following minimum qualifications:
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Marketing, Economics, Project Management, or a related field;
• MBA or other postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
Experience
• Minimum 7 years of professional experience in firefighting, rescue services, emergency response, industrial safety, TVET training, or related sectors;
• Demonstrated experience leading operational, training, commercial, or business development activities;
• Experience developing partnerships and cooperation with government institutions, private sector stakeholders, NGOs, donors, training institutions, or industry partners;
• Experience identifying and developing new training, consultancy, or service delivery opportunities;
• International professional experience and exposure to different operational environments, particularly within Africa, the Middle East, or other relevant regions, will be considered an advantage.
Skills
• Strong strategic planning and organisational development skills;
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills;
• Strong financial planning and budgeting capabilities;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
• Strong leadership, coordination, and team management skills;
• Ability to identify and develop sustainable commercial opportunities.
Location
The duty station will be Firetrack Training Centre in Kiambu, Kenya.
The position follows a hybrid working arrangement combining office-based and remote work. Regular travel within Kenya may be required for stakeholder engagement, partnership development, training activities, conferences, and field operations.
