Overview of position
This position operates within a dynamic humanitarian mine action environment in Ukraine, supporting the implementation of mine action activities, training and mentoring activities in project related regions. The role is essential for effective capacity development of national mine action actors, and ensuring the safe and efficient execution of mine action operations.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the humanitarian effort in Ukraine by supporting humanitarian mine action activities and building local capacity. The position offers exposure to a challenging and rewarding environment, working with diverse stakeholders to address the impact of explosive ordnance on communities.
The Operations Senior Officer (Ukrainian Mine Action Specialist) will be responsible for facilitating training, liaison and coordination with relevant project beneficiaries, and supporting equipment tracking. They will address the threat posed by landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) and will play a crucial role in maintaining effective communication between project personnel and project beneficiaries.
Role objectives
1. Training and Capacity Development:
● Provide training and briefings related to the explosive ordnance (EO) awareness, EO contamination in conflict-affected areas, ongoing and planned humanitarian mine action activities as requested.
● Support in tailoring training programmes and other relevant humanitarian mine action training courses (such as explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), survey, clearance, Explosive Hazard Awareness Training (EHAT), explosive ordnance risk education (EORE), quality management and team management) to the identified needs, current risks and threats to build the capacity in humanitarian mine action operations of relevant project beneficiaries.
● Provide technical advice and guidance to the project beneficiaries, client`s personnel and contractors on survey, EHAT, EORE and clearance operations in complex security environments.
● Facilitate workshops and training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of local humanitarian demining personnel.
● Support the integration of best practices and international standards into local humanitarian mine action strategies.
2. Equipment Tracking and Procurement Support:
● Monitor and track the usage and condition of humanitarian mine action equipment to ensure optimal utilisation and maintenance.
● Liaise with procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of necessary equipment.
3. Liaison and Coordination:
● Where requested, maintain effective communication channels with relevant project beneficiaries.
● Coordinate and facilitate information exchange between client and relevant project beneficiaries, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of relevant information.
● Liaise with project beneficiaries and other relevant stakeholders to foster collaboration and coordination in humanitarian mine action activities.
● Where requested, attend meetings, workshops, and other relevant events to represent client and provide updates on program activities.
4. Monitoring and Reporting:
● Monitor and report on the progress of humanitarian mine action activities, identifying challenges and proposing solutions to enhance program effectiveness.
● Contribute to the development of reports, briefings, and other communication materials related to the client`s Programme.
● Ensure accurate documentation of all project-related humanitarian mine action activities, including training sessions, mentoring, equipment usage, and coordination efforts.

To report to the Field Operations Manager.
Key competencies
Experience
● Relevant experience is experience in explosive hazard management and related training in Ukraine.
● Field experience in practical application of the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS).
● Field experience in practical application of the National Mine Action Standards in project related activities.
● Experience working in volatile, conflict or immediate post conflict environments.
● Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
● Advanced University Degree (master’s degree or equivalent) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, OR
● A First Level University Degree (bachelor’s degree) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, OR
● A minimum of 8 years of relevant mine action experience.
● Ukrainian driving license (category “B”).
● Ukrainian “Sapper (Demining)” labour qualification and/or IMAS EOD qualifications from international or national organizations.
