The advertised position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC) – a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature. GSCC is a collaborative project hosted by the ECF.
Through our work, we aim to contribute to a world with a safe and stable climate for current and future generations. We hope to build broad support for just, inclusive, and equitable solutions to the climate crisis.
Our philanthropically funded work focuses on media debate and public discourse at the global level and in major economies across Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia and the Americas. We support a diverse range of partners across sectors and geographies, helping them add their voices, views and insights to the conversation.
Position
The GSCC’s Network Support Team (NST) is seeking an intern to join the team. This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate / career starter with a sincere interest in climate and energy issues and the ambition to make a difference, to play an active role in helping speed up the low carbon transition and avoid the worst impacts of global climate change.
The NST intern will perform the task under the guidance of the NST Associate, and in close collaboration with the NST Junior Associate, and the NST Program Coordinator.
Key responsibilities
Intern will be responsible for:
- Working with the team to support the communications – and media needs of the GSCC and the wider climate community;
- Assisting the GSCC network in its day-to-day work and providing support to network colleagues, including administrative and outreach tasks;
- Contributing to the delivery of outreach strategies that help build political, media and public endorsement for action on climate change at international, national and sectoral level;
- Making full use of new media tools to disseminate messages and raise awareness of the GSCC-supported initiatives and outputs;
- Monitoring the news agenda and public debates;
- Monitoring and reporting of network activities;
- Maintenance and development of in-house media – and outreach databases;
- For the right candidate, there will be a possibility to deepen project management and digital campaigning skills to raise awareness of the network’s strategic communications projects;
Requirements
- Has a genuine interest in the mission and values of ECF;
- Is a fast-learner self-starter comfortable working in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and working across time zones, phone/video conferencing, etc.;
- Has a background in the fields of communications, public relations, energy or environmental issues;
- Is media and social media-savvy, experience in writing-editing is a plus;
- Brings some experience in graphic design and video editing software;
- Is able to think analytically and research effectively;
- Is up to speed with online communication tools and social media;
- Is enthusiastic to contribute framing public and media debates around the issue of climate change;
- Has excellent English language skills, both written and verbal; knowledge of other languages welcome;
- Is flexible, with the ability to work independently and in a team;
- Shows appreciation of the vital role of administrative tasks;
- Has the disposition to work with colleagues in a high-trust international community of peers with a spirit of generosity and mutual support;
- Holds a commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.
