Mission

Geneva Call is a neutral and impartial non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting respect by Armed Groups and De Facto and/or Provisional Authorities (AGDAs) for international humanitarian norms in armed conflict and other situations of violence, in particular those related to the protection of civilians. Geneva Call focuses its efforts on banning the use of anti-personnel mines, protecting children from the effects of armed conflict, prohibiting sexual violence in armed conflict, working towards the elimination of gender discrimination, protecting civilian infrastructure, and ensuring humanitarian access.

Role

The Finance Assistant is responsible for providing day-to-day support to the finance team and the country operations ensuring a smooth implementation of day to day accounting transactions and implementation of donors’ rules and regulations and GC’s finance polices & procedure.

Work relations

The finance Assistant reports to the Head of Support and works closely with other members of the finance and support team in country.

Duties and responsabilities

  • Manage cash operations and payments, including processing cash collections and payments (including field travel), preparing cheques and cash transfer requests, maintaining petty cash, conducting regular cash counts and reconciliations, ensuring timely replenishment of funds, and settling taxes and other financial liabilities in accordance with Geneva Call policies.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation, by recording all cash, petty cash and bank transactions using the appropriate coding, safeguarding finance vouchers, maintaining organised filing systems, stamping financial documents, scanning and uploading monthly financial documentation, and ensuring all records are complete, accurate and easily retrievable.
  • Support financial administration and reporting, including monitoring the status of staff advances and ensuring their timely settlement, preparing finance-related outgoing correspondence, assisting the Head of Support with financial reports, and performing all financial duties in compliance with Geneva Call’s Programme, Personnel and Finance Regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with financial procedures and internal controls, by maintaining the security of cash and financial records, verifying the accuracy and completeness of documentation, carrying out reconciliations, and ensuring all financial processes adhere to Geneva Call’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide operational support and business continuity, including replacing the Finance Officer during their absence and undertaking all essential finance functions to ensure uninterrupted financial operations.

Requirements

Education (essential)

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in relevant field such as accounting, business management, finance, or economics.

Experience (essential)

  • Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in finance.
  • Good knowledge of Excel.

Experience (desirable)

  • Experience from humanitarian or development sector is a plus.

Job related competencies

  • Software Proficiency: Skill in using accounting software and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Compliance & Audits: Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and compliance standards, as well as experience with internal controls and audits.

Language (essential)

  • Full professional proficiency in Arabic and English, written and spoken.
