Caritas Germany is the charitable organisation of the Catholic Church in Germany. Every year, Caritas Germany supports approximately 1,000 humanitarian aid and development projects worldwide, providing aid to people in need regardless of their religion, ethnic identity, or nationality.
On behalf of Caritas Germany, AGIAMONDO is seeking to fill the following position as soon as possible:
Project Coordinator Humanitarian Aid for Syria (m/f/x)
Your new role
Following the strong earthquakes in Syria and Turkey, the situation is now stable, but needs remain high in many places. Caritas and its local partner organisations are very engaged with life saving aid programs. Due to the current conditions in Syria, the place of residence and work is not in the project area in Syria, but e.g. in Beirut/Lebanon. The local partners include Caritas Syria with regional offices in Damascus, Aleppo and Hassaké as well as various religious congregations.
Your tasks:
- Advise and support local partners in planning, management and implementation of projects and programmes (many with a strong protection focus) according to project agreements and donor guidelines.
- Preparation of project proposals and reports according to Caritas Germany standards and report on the progress of the project to headquarters.
- Supporting the ongoing aid programmes and projects by monitoring project implementation and administration; preparation of proposal for public donors (German Federal Foreign Office), as well as coordination and support of expert consultants.
- Plan and carry out administrative and financial trainings for local partners as well as workshops on thematic issues.
- In coordination with headquarters, represent Caritas German at relevant coordination and other important meetings (German Embassy, OCHA, UNHCR, CIMOs), and support public relations work.
Your profile:
- Physically and psychologically fit to travel to Syria.
- University degree relevant to the field of humanitarian aid or development cooperation and at least two years of professional experience in the field, ideally acquired in the region.
- Culturally sensitive counselling and training skills and a sound knowledge of programme and project management, as well as financial management and accounting.
- Experience in working with local partner organisations and identification with the objectives and strategy of Caritas Germany.
- Diplomatic and intercultural communication skills to deal with the relevant players based on mutual respect and partnership, and able to act appropriately in a church context.
- Very good knowledge of English, verbally and written. Knowledge of Arabic, German or French would be beneficial. You are an EU or Swiss citizen.
