The Role
The Skills Coordinator plays an important support role within the Skills Strengthening team, helping ensure high quality, well-organised, and culturally appropriate training is delivered across program areas. Reporting to the Skills Strengthening Manager, the position provides logistical, administrative, and resource development support to enable effective training activities.

The role also contributes to ongoing quality improvement by supporting the development and maintenance of training materials, coordinating documentation and compliance requirements, and assisting in the implementation of training innovations. By working with contract trainers, skills advisors, and training support staff, the Skills Coordinator helps strengthen consistency, accuracy, and continuous improvement across all training activities.

This position supports both operational coordination and training quality enhancement, contributing to improved learner outcomes and stronger skills strengthening and training for employment outcomes in Solomon Islands.

· Work with Skills Advisors and other training delivery staff to develop, update, and maintain training resources and learning materials that meet participant needs and cultural context.

· Assist with formatting, organising, and preparing training materials for consistent, high-quality delivery.

· Support the implementation of training innovation and improvements to enhance training quality and learner engagement.

· Provide logistical and operational support to Skills Advisers during planning and delivery of training activities.

· Assist with scheduling, venue arrangements, material preparation, and coordination of training cohorts as required.

· Support the induction and onboarding of contract trainers, tutors, and other delivery staff.

· Support continuous improvement activities related to training quality, learner experience, and delivery processes.

· Work with the Skills team to ensure participant training progress, assessments, and other records are accurately filed, updated, and maintained.

· Provide feedback, follow up, and support to ensure delivery staff have the resources and information they need for effective training.

· Contribute to identifying training delivery challenges and suggesting practical improvements.

· Contribute to general administrative, coordination, and reporting tasks as required.

· Participate in internal meetings, planning sessions, and training related events.

· Other tasks as required to support the smooth implementation of Pacific Australia Skills in the Solomon Islands.

Essential Experience

Mandatory requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience working with adult learners, with a background in the skills, vocational, industry training sector and/or experience within a training organisation.
  • Experience working within compliance frameworks, including quality assurance.
  • Strong coordination and administrative skills, including supporting trainers, managing training resources, and maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Proficient digital skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), email, and online collaboration tools for preparing training materials and reports.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI); Child Protection; Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH); prevention of human trafficking; environmental protection; anti‑corruption; and other DFAT safeguarding policies.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience working with Australian Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and familiarity with RTO compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with national or regional training institutions or education agencies.
  • Experience working on aid funded or donor-supported programs.
  • Knowledge of the Solomon Islands education and training system and local cultural context.
  • Relevant qualification and/or degree (advantage but not required).
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive for work-related activities.
