ABOUT US

Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organization. We work to reduce violence and protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath through the implementation of unarmed civilian protection programming. NP implements programming through the deployment of civilian protection teams to the field and is continuing to scale up to meet the growing needs in the communities we serve. Programming is founded on unarmed civilian protection and is thematically focused on protection in displacement, child protection, gender-based violence protection, and inter-communal violence reduction.

JOB PURPOSE

The Program Development Officer works with the country management team to create content for external communications to both donors and public media; manage grants; write creative proposals on Unarmed Civilian Protection; maintain and develop new relationships with Embassies, international organizations and partner organizations; and supports with Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning, and reporting.

We are particularly looking for an enthusiastic individual with demonstrable interest and/or experience in communications, and developing new proposals. Skills and/or experience with social media, digital network analysis, digital peacebuilding, and addressing online hate speech will be considered strong assets.

KEY OBJECTIVES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications & External Relations

  • Functions as the Communications Focal Point for all of NP Iraq.
  • Takes the lead in creating new content, coordinating with field teams on success stories and case studies, as well as supporting capacity building of national and international staff through trainings on communications.
  • Works with NP global office to develop Communication materials for the website and social media.
  • Develops and maintain external relations with partner organizations, embassies and international organizations.
  • Represents NP in meetings with external actors.

Program Development, Research and Fundraising

  • Identifies new opportunities for programming and funding.
  • Writes and supports on development of creative concept notes and proposals, including log frames and program strategies. You will work closely with colleagues implementing programming to develop new ideas and continuously improve our programming. You would be responsible for coordinating the process and solicit ideas from other colleagues, bringing these together into a coherent proposal.
  • Works closely with the Management and Program implementation team to analyze contextual developments in Iraq and based on those, come up with new strategies to implement protection and peacebuilding.
  • Conducts research on developments in Iraq related to conflict, peacebuilding, development and human rights, using both external and internal sources. This research is then directly used for the development of new projects.
  • Experience with digital networking analysis or other research methodologies used to track and address online hate speech is highly preferred.

Grants Management & Reporting

  • Compile and analyze data from field activity reports to align with grant deliverables.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of project outputs, track progress towards indicators and measure the impact of projects.
  • Lead in drafting narrative donor reports and coordinate with finance department to ensure that financial reports are submitted on time, in adherence with financial reporting requirements, and that they correspond to the narrative reports.
  • Provides capacity building and training to teams on report writing, log frames and the project objectives.

Other

  • Travels to field sites to enhance understanding of the context and programming for the purposes of developing proposals and reporting to/liaising with donors.
  • Supports programmatic input into relevant advocacy efforts, whether in-country or at a global level

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education, Knowledge, and Experience

In short, we are looking for someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills with a passion for Unarmed Civilian Protection or Peacebuilding more broadly. Writing reports and proposals in short time frames are part of our daily work and requires both excellent stress-management and creative skills.

  • Relevant university degree in social sciences, conflict studies, international development, anthropology, gender studies or other related area of studies.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in reporting, communications, external relations and/or grants management required.
  • Proven experience in proposal development for institutional donors with a track record of successful proposal packages, including narratives, log frames and budgets.
  • Experience tracking donor trends and opportunities.
  • Demonstrable skills/experience in writing success stories, case studies, or other means of storytelling to highlight achievements.
  • Experience with digital peacebuilding, digital analysis and addressing online hate speech is highly preferred.
  • Experience implementing program in the field, ideally in (post)-conflict settings preferred.
  • Knowledge or demonstrable interest in Unarmed Civilian Protection, protection of human rights (defenders), civic engagement, human security, violence prevention, digital peacebuilding, media literacy and addressing hate speech, and/or peacebuilding.
  • Knowledge of context in Iraq and the Middle East
