Resource Matters is a non-profit organization based in Brussels ( Belgium ) and in Kinshasa ( Democratic Republic of Congo ). We are conducting research and advocacy to ensure that the mining and energy wealth of the Congo contributes to the economic development of the country.
Several regulatory developments underway at European Union level are directly relevant to our work and that of our civil society partners in the DRC and beyond. These include the Critical Raw Materials Act, strategic partnerships between the EU and countries rich in natural resources, of the Anti-Corruption Directive and the adoption of a new EU sanctions regime for corruption, to name a few.
We want to help ensure that these European initiatives take into account our main concerns as well as those of our civil society partners in certain countries where these minerals are extracted ( including, but not limited to it, the DRC ).
To this end, Resource Matters recruits a coordinator or coordinator in charge of international advocacy. This position is suitable for those who have already become familiar with the European system and are ready to engage with our motivated teams, dynamic and diversified to develop and implement a new advocacy strategy for the European Union and, to a lesser extent, the other economic powers.
The position will last at least 24 months and will be based in Brussels, with the possibility of working partly at home. Only applications accompanied by a CV and a cover letter will be taken into account.
Tasks
In collaboration with staff based in the DRC and Brussels, and under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the coordinator or coordinator of international advocacy will perform the following tasks :
- Design and implement a European advocacy strategy to strengthen our work on critical minerals, the energy transition and the fight against corruption
- Monitor relevant EU initiatives for Resource Matters’ work, including critical raw materials, batteries, EU strategic partnerships in the area of critical materials, and the adoption of an EU anti-corruption sanctions regime; inform other team members of key developments
- Propose Resource Matters’ political and advocacy positions in these matters
- Coordinate the search and production of advocacy materials, including communication strategy, briefing notes, speeches, web content and other advocacy materials.
- Engage proactively with EU officials, member states, private sector lobbyists and civil society organizations.
- Contribute to developing our network with European institutions, relevant civil society groups and industry representatives.
- Produce regular updates on advocacy work with target audiences
Qualifications
The ideal candidate has the following skills and qualifications :
- University degree in law, economics, political science, European studies, international relations, resource governance or other relevant field
- At least 5 years of professional experience in relation to the European institutions ;
- Good understanding of the political and legal framework of the EU ;
- Proven interest in at least one of the following subjects: extractive industries, renewable energies, energy transition, corruption, money laundering, financial crime
- Established network comprising stakeholders from European institutions and EU civil society
- Work experience with basic organizations ( all )
- Experience working with Congolese civil society organizations ( all )
- Good command of French and English orally and in writing ( obligatory )
- Good command of current computer software
- Rigor and attention to detail
- Enthusiasm, Want to Moving Things And Away Of Humor ( Mandatory )
