With shared migration dynamics, cross-border challenges and diverse social, political and economic contexts, the countries ( El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras ) and Mexico are among the countries where greater concerted action is required to ensure that migrants have better access to health and are integrated into the main national and local policy-making processes. The migrant population in the communities of these four countries faces interconnected factors that can endanger their health, especially in border areas with inadequate conditions, and face barriers that hinder their access to quality, comprehensive health services. With the aim of generating knowledge about the human security approach and its use as a successful operational tool to promote universal access to health, universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals, IOM implements the Regional Program “ Applying the Human Security Approach to Advance a Comprehensive Response to Health and Migration in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico ” jointly with PAHO / WHO. The program will promote and strengthen capacities in the human security approach at the national and local levels, and will help accelerate progress to improve migrants’ access to comprehensive, quality, equitable and non-discriminatory health services, by strengthening health information systems to support policies and programs that include health information migrants strengthened through capacity development in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico to generate and integrate health data on migrants to support evidence-based and inclusive policies and plans for migrants.
