Established in 1951, IOM is a United Nations Related Organization and, as the leading United Nations agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting human and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does this by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
The Regional Program on Migration ( Mesoamerica Program ), funded by the Office of Population, Refugees and Migration ( PRM ) of the United States Department of Population, seeks to improve the capacities of States in Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean for the governance of migration in a humane and sustainable way. The Program has four pillars: migration governance, regional dialogue and alliances, migration crisis management and communication for development.
In the last months of 2020 and early 2021, migratory flows of unaccompanied migrant children and adolescents have increased on the southern border of the United States, and mixed migratory flows ( including caravans ) from Honduras and El Salvador continue north.
In this context, IOM proposes to facilitate access and reliable information on safe migration and local alternatives that counter messages from trafficking and smuggling networks in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Mexico. The proposed response is especially aimed at migrants vulnerable to violence, exploitation and abuse, such as children, adolescents and extra-regional populations, addressing immediate evidence-based needs. We will also work with local communities and partners to disseminate messages based on the Pensalo 2 Times campaign.
Under the general supervision of the head of Mission and the direct supervision of the National Project Officer, and in coordination with the head of Communication for Development in El Salvador, the/ the Project Assistant will be responsible for executing the following tasks:
Functions and Responsibilities:
- Identify communities, schools, local spaces to expand the content of the Pensalo 2 Times campaign to provide accurate messages about border access and emphasize the risks of irregular migration.
- Create a local directory of key partners
- Support administrative processes such as supplier searches and quotes for your activities
- Participate in awareness days on irregular migration with a gender and human rights approach.
- Prepare a monthly report in format provided by IOM that contains a record of activities, number of people reached, disaggregated by sex, photographic record of the actions implemented.
- Support alliances with local partners for action implementation
- Publicize the work of the information windows to the migrant population that the Regional Program on Migration has and refer cases when appropriate.
- Carry out work trips within the country or outside it for the development or monitoring of activities.
- Adopt and apply the gender and human rights perspective approach in the implementation of the Program activities.
- Maintain constant dialogue and provide periodic information to the National Coordinator of the Mesoamerica Program on the progress of the actions, the problems identified and the improvements implemented for their solution.
- And all the others that in the framework of his functions are requested according to his experience and ability.
Experience and Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Professional in social sciences, or related careers such as political science, international relational science, legal science with 2 years of relevant experience.
- Secondary studies with 4 years of relevant experience.
- Proven studies on migration, human trafficking, gender are required.
- Professional experience in facilitating knowledge processes aimed at diverse groups.
- Experience in facilitating workshops on migration, gender violence, human rights, human trafficking.
- Knowledge and experience in the field of migration and human rights, preferably focused on the protection and assistance of people in vulnerable conditions, especially girls ( os ), adolescents and women
- Good management of data processing programs: Excel, Word, Power Point, Access, as well as other programs in the Office package or other systems.
- Work experience with international cooperation and international humanitarian organizations will be an advantage.

Languages
- Excellent command of the Spanish language, both written and oral.
- Intermediate level of the English language, both oral and written, to be considered an advantage
