Media and Advocacy Specialist NORCAP At Norwegian Refugee Council

An exciting opportunity to establish and develop the advocacy work for a leading international NGO, based in Oslo, Norway.

What we are looking for

NORCAP, part of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), is seeking a highly qualified, resilient and dynamic Advocacy and media specialist, responsible for advocating to improve the situation for people affected by crises, safeguarding and strengthening the NORCAP brand and raising awareness of our work. The Advocacy and media specialist will be part of a team that develops, implements and reviews NORCAP’s internal and external communication strategy and drives NORCAP’s media and advocacy efforts.

What you will do

  1. Develop and implement NORCAP’s advocacy strategy towards relevant targets; systematise NORCAP’s cross-department advocacy priority issues.
  2. Lead strategic planning, coordination and implementation of NORCAP advocacy initiatives for private and public use, writing media talking points and opinion pieces, and producing advocacy plans for selected thematic events and crises communication.
  3. Responsible for developing and implementing policies and guidelines related to public advocacy in NORCAP teams and departments.
  4. Develop and nurture strong contacts and networks, including building relations with key politicians, government counterparts and other decision makers.
  5. Manage and develop NORCAP’s global social media accounts, including planning, producing content and measuring impact.
  6. Monitor ongoing public debates to identify needs and opportunities for NORCAP-specific advocacy initiatives.

What you will bring

  • Relevant university degree and experience within advocacy, political communications, or journalism.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex political/humanitarian contexts.
  • Knowledge of and preferably experience with, humanitarian principles, international affairs and general knowledge of the development and peacebuilding sectors.
  • Solid understanding of Norwegian politics and practices, and network within the Norwegian political and media landscape.

What we offer

  • Duty station: Oslo Norway
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Travel: up to 5%
  • Salary/benefits: grade 9 on NRC’s Head Office salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions
