Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading
UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and
non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the
benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
Background Information
The International Organization for Migration provides an administrative service related to visa applications through the Canadian Visa Application Centre (CVAC), to make the visa application process faster and more convenient.
Under the overall supervision of the CVAC Sub Regional Coordinator and direct supervision of the CVAC Team Leader, the incumbent will provide support for the CVAC operated by IOM.
- Assist customer services to applicants, in accordance with contractual obligations and service standards of the Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
- Assist providing information to applicants’ distribution of forms and checklists: provide accurate and timely responses to applicant inquiries by telephone, email chat, courier and in-person assistance and guidance with value-added services.
- Assist in collecting visa applications and sorting documents: checking the completeness and accuracy of visa application forms: checking the completeness of supporting documents: sorting documents with a list of relevant control: assistance to applicants if documents are incomplete.
- Assist to enter visa application data.
- Assist to recover visa and service fees; checking the validity of payments and charges against the application management software: issuing invoices; daily reconciliation of fees collected and invoices.
- Proceed with delivery and collection of applications and passports: secure transfer of visa applications and passports to and from designated IRCC visa offices; sorting and counting applications and passports; issuance of passports to applicants and transmission to courier services.
- Inform management of any incidents or issues related to daily work, security issues, systems and software, complaints and propose recommendations for service optimization.
- Perform any other related tasks that may be assigned by supervisor.

It is expected that the selected intern will:
• Be exposed to the activities of IOM in the duty station.
• Gain understanding about the IOM and the UN System and its processes.
• Learn technical skills described in this Post Description.
• Be able to prove their dedication, skills and capacity to work in an international setting as part of a diverse and international team.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- High school diploma,
- University degree from an accredited university
Experiences
- Experience with migrant-related programs or visa-related services
- Experience in customer service; and,
- Experience in liaising with government and diplomatic authorities and national and international institutions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint Ask Bing Al Previous professional experience in international organizations and companies would be an asset.
Languages
Fluency in French and good knowledge of English.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process,
which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Eligibility and Selection
In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
- have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM
programmes and activities.
- are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for
whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
- are sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions and/or academia to work in
specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
- are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme
(minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.
- are between 20 and 36 years of age.
Depending on experience and location, IOM provides a small monthly stipend to help offset
costs.

The appointment is subject to funding confirmation.
Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment,
accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances. Subject to certain
exemptions, vaccination against COVID-19 will in principle be required for individuals hired on or
after 15 November 2021. This will be verified as part of the medical clearance process.
