Program Officer (stipend) At Europe Cares

Europe Cares is a young and growing humanitarian organization supporting people on the move and standing up for human rights at the European external borders.

On Lesvos, we operate the community center Paréa Lesvos located within walking distance from the CCAC (or Mavrovouni refugee camp). The center offers a safe space where residents of the camp, locals, and international people can meet freely to spend time in a peaceful environment with many recreational activities and sports, a Women Space, a cafeteria with free drinks and daily lunch. Our center hosts another 9 partner organizations offering a wide range of services to our visitors including MHPSS, legal support, NFI distributions, informal education and integration support.

Position Summary

Our Program Officer is responsible for the supervision of daily activities run by Europe Cares in the center, as well as the supervision and support of volunteers involved in them. In close cooperation with the Project Coordinator, you will conduct program meetings and training to monitor the overall success of our activities and train the incoming volunteers. Finally, you will be involved in MEAL tasks including monthly reports.

The full-time role is based in Lesvos, Greece. The starting date is January 3rd 2024.

Your daily tasks may involve:

  • Supervising the daily operations in the café, Women Space, parea club, IT classes & security team, in cooperation with the Project Coordinator;
  • Supporting & supervising volunteers involved in the daily activities;
  • Conducting program training with newly arrived volunteers;
  • Organizing & conducting daily morning briefings and monthly program meetings, in cooperation with the Team leads and Project Coordinator;
  • Recruiting team leads for each team (café, security, Women Space, Paréa Club);
  • Tracking numbers of daily activities;
  • Filling in monthly reports in cooperation with the staff members;
  • Taking over minor tasks from one of the coordinators, if necessary.
  • Taking over tasks from the Distribution and Logistics Officer, if necessary.
  • Supporting the Volunteer Coordinator in the daily supervision and mentoring of the volunteers.
  • Driving;
  • Support of Project Coordinator and overall staff team;
  • Other relevant tasks as requested by the Project Coordinator.

What we are looking for:

  • At least 21 years old;
  • Eligible to reside and work in the EU (as a small NGO we are not able to offer assistance for visa applications);
  • Able to commit for (at least) 4 months;
  • Able to provide a Criminal Record Check;
  • (Under-)graduate degree in a relevant field of study;
  • 3-months minimum experience from humanitarian organizations, and project or volunteer management in particular;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organizational & time management skills;
  • Ability to work in high-paced environment and under pressure;
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative;
  • Fluent in English. Greek and other context relevant languages (i.e. Farsi/Arabic/Amharic/Somali) are an advantage;
  • High degree of integrity and strict compliance to Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policy;
  • Commitment to the values and mission of Europe Cares;
  • An experienced driver with an international drivers license. This is a necessary requirement for the position.
