TITLE: Advocacy and Campaigns Coordinator

TEAM/PROGRAMME: ACCM

LOCATION: Thailand

CONTRACT LENGTH: 24 months with possible extension

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Advocacy and Campaigns Coordinator work alongside the ACCM Manager to coordinate the development and implementing the country-wide advocacy and campaigns strategy and work plans, key messages for talking points, reports, campaigns and external lobbying activities. The Advocacy & Campaigns Coordinator also supports the programme teams to develop and carry-out child participatory advocacy and campaigning activities, collaborate with the programme teams to ensure that external messaging is consistent, and identify and build relationships with key stakeholders at the local and national levels.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Advocacy, Campaign, Communications and Media (ACCM) Manager

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

Advocacy

  • Leading the development and implementation of the country level advocacy strategy for SC Thailand, focusing on the rights for the most impacted by inequality and discrimination children, analyzing policy gaps, and identifying and building relationships with key stakeholders
  • Provide analysis of short- and long-term issues for children, particularly education, child protection, and child rights governance as well as current and future challenges
  • Coordinate with Program and Project Managers in development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of advocacy plans for Save the Children Thailand
  • Document any noteworthy policy change or ‘significant’ progress
  • Ensure strong linkages between advocacy and programmes, and that advocacy is evidence based.
  • Work with the MEAL team in communicating the program evidence and best practices to support and inform the implementation of advocacy plan and achievement of program results at scale
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including relevant government agencies, other NGOs and civil society, UN actors, etc. to ensure up-to-date information and policy analysis on the situation for children in Thailand, challenges, funding, policy priorities, coordination, and other issues.
  • Support the SC Thailand to develop advocacy risk assessments for the activities and objectives in the Thailand advocacy and campaigns strategy.
  • Support Program/Project Managers to plan and utilize advocacy and campaigns budgets.

Campaign

  • Lead on Save the Children’s national campaign efforts through leading on the implementation of child and youth-led campaign activities, producing social media materials
  • Coordinate with all Project and Program Coordinators in planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on campaign initiatives
  • Provide technical support to project which have campaign activities including youth-led campaign
  • Play a strong external representation role to support work with key partners to further the aims of our campaigning
  • Develop bi-annual reports on advocacy and campaign

Representation and Coordination

  • Ensure coordination of advocacy messages and activities between field/area offices with linkages to the Asia Regional Office
  • Support the identification and relationship building with key stakeholders for advocacy at the local and national level
  • Support the ACCM team and senior management in high-level advocacy work towards relevant authorities, UN actors, donors, NGOs, and other civil society
  • Working closely with Communication Coordinator to draft and otherwise support the production of advocacy and campaign products for use at local and national, including advocacy and context updates, talking points, key messaged, etc. on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that all key advocacy messages, documents and strategies are evidence-based, regularly updated and of a high quality. When necessary ensure advocacy products are signed-off according to the SCI sign-off procedures.
  • Work closely with communication coordinator and media and external engagement coordinator to ensure the visibility and media engagement for campaign and advocacy activities
  • Support and collaborate strongly with Communication Coordinator in their content, communications and digital engagement approaches (including social media) to campaigns.

Capacity Building

  • Build capacity of Save the Children staff to understand advocacy, campaign, and communications approaches, tools, and requirements
  • Manage and ensure capacity building of Communications and Advocacy Assistant and/or interns assigned to support advocacy, campaigns, and communications work

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, arts, fine arts, or any related field.
  • At least 5-year experience in advocacy, campaign, communications, social media, media management, marketing, public relations, or related field.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • Excellent English and Thai communications skills, both written and verbal
  • At least one year of experience in campaigning, advocacy, journalism and/or media work
  • Strong experience in leading or implementing strategic communications campaigns.
  • Ability to speak confidently in front of the media, donors, and senior staff
  • Good understanding of social media engagement
  • Excellent personal organizational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Experience of working in related human development issues, especially one or more of Save the Children’s sectors (i.e. child protection, child rights governance, education, humanitarian) an advantage.
  • Experience and understanding children’s issues in Thailand
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization developing effective working relationships to deliver outstanding results for children
  • Commitment to and understanding of SCT mission, values, and principles including rights-based approaches.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and at different levels, to motivate and inspire teamwork.

Desirable

  • Previous NGO experience or Save the Children previous experience is an advantage
  • Flexibility, live and thrive in challenging circumstances

  • Experience of working in an emergency setting and/or committed to building that capacity
