UNFPA is inviting talented Emergency Response Coordinators to apply for our upcoming Surge Workshop in Senegal in April 2024 . This transformative training and assessment experience is focused on honing skills in different areas of humanitarian response with special attention to infectious diseases.
Candidates who attend the workshop and pass the assessment will be added to the UNFPA Surge Response Roster used for rapid deployment of experts as part of our humanitarian response activities around the world.

Experts selected for the roster will be considered for deployments to emergencies to:
- Lead day-to-day coordination of the UNFPA emergency response in close consultation with the country office representative, as well as the regional and humanitarian response division.
- assist the Country Office in the planning, coordination and implementation of UNFPA’s humanitarian interventions focusing on the four key emergency thematic areas of Gender Based Violence in Emergencies (GBViE), Sexual and Reproductive Health in Emergencies (SRHiE), Youth in Emergencies, and
- ensure the appropriate collection, analysis and management of relevant (humanitarian) data in such circumstances.
Qualifications and Skills required:
- Advanced technical degree preferably in medicine, public health, social sciences, humanitarian response, international relations or a related field.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in coordinating, developing and implementing humanitarian interventions in crisis settings.
- A solid understanding of UNFPA’s humanitarian intervention areas of GBV and SRH
- Knowledge of the humanitarian reform process and roles/responsibilities of humanitarian actors.
- Demonstrated resource mobilization success with key humanitarian actors
- Strong analytical, coordination and organizational skills.
- Track record of building and maintaining trust strategic alliances and partnerships with relevant government stakeholders including other UN agencies, institutions, NGOs and iNGOs as well as donor groups, with strong communication and networking skills
- Proficiency in French is required and working knowledge of English is strongly preferred.

The experts selected to join the pool will be pre-selected for deployment in emergency situations in order to:
- coordinate UNFPA’s emergency response on a daily basis in close consultation with the Country Office Representative, as well as regional and humanitarian offices.
- support the country office in planning, coordinating and implementing UNFPA humanitarian interventions focusing on the two key emergency thematic areas of gender-based violence in emergencies (GBV-U ), sexual and reproductive health in emergencies (SRH-U) and youth in emergencies,
- ensure the appropriate collection, analysis and management of relevant (humanitarian) data in such circumstances.
Qualifications and skills required
- Advanced technical degree, preferably in medicine, public health, social sciences, humanitarian intervention, international relations or a related field.
- More than 7 years of relevant experience in coordinating, developing and implementing humanitarian interventions in crisis situations.
- A solid understanding of UNFPA’s humanitarian focus areas of gender-based violence and sexual and reproductive health.
- Knowledge of the humanitarian reform process and the roles/responsibilities of humanitarian actors.
- Proven success in mobilizing resources from key humanitarian actors.
- Strong analytical, coordination and organizational skills.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining strategic alliances and trusted partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including other UN agencies, government institutions, NGOs and INGOs, as well as donor groups, with strong communication and networking skills.
- Fluency in French is essential and fluency in English is highly required.
