UNFPA is inviting talented Gender Based Violence in Emergencies Experts to apply for our upcoming Surge Workshop in Senegal in April 2024 . This transformative training and assessment experience is focused on honing skills in different areas of humanitarian response with special attention to infectious diseases.

Candidates who attend the workshop and pass the assessment will be added to the UNFPA Surge Response Roster used for rapid deployment of experts as part of our humanitarian response activities around the world.

Experts selected for the roster will be considered for deployment to emergencies as:

GBV program specialist to oversee the implementation of UNFPA’s GBV programming in a humanitarian emergency. UNFPA’s GBV programming in humanitarian emergencies is multi-sectoral and involves implementing partners and other stakeholders from the affected communities, such as NGO and government, UN agencies, and other national and international organizations that engage in comprehensive prevention and response initiatives in line with a survivors -centered approach.

GBV coordinator to systematize prevention and response interventions within the humanitarian architecture coordination mechanisms, such as GBV Sub-Sector/Cluster and GBV working groups. The GBV Coordinator represents the GBV Area of ​​Responsibility (GBV AoR) and works closely with the Protection Cluster and the Child Protection AoR in addition to other clusters in the area of ​​risk mitigation and GBV integration across the humanitarian system.

GBV information management specialist to support UNFPA GBV Programs. To represent UNFPA in and contribute to inter-agency assessment processes; support the design and implementation of UNFPA-led GBV needs assessments and situation analyses; provide support to UNFPA implementing partners on GBV information management.

Qualifications and Skills required:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant (eg GBV, protection, human rights) job experience with graduate degree (equivalent of a Masters)
  • Experience in management and/or coordination of multi-sectoral GBV prevention and response programs in emergencies, experience with direct implementation preferred.
  • Demonstrate understanding of survivor-centered approach, believes in gender equality and applies, promotes and integrates gender analysis into humanitarian programming
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, with team members based in other countries/organizations.
  • Knowledge of resource mobilization; CERF, Flash Appeals and pooled funds.
  • Proficiency in French is required and working knowledge of English is strongly preferred.

For Coordination post; understanding of the 6 functions of Coordinators.

For the GBV information management profile, strong technical skills are required, including strong data management, analysis and visualization skills. Advanced skills in IM tools such as Kobo, Activityinfo, Excel/Access/SQL/PSS and/or Power BI are desired.

FRENCH VERSION

Experts selected to join the pool will be pre-selected for deployment in emergency situations as:

GBV PROGRAM SPECIALIST to oversee the implementation of the UNFPA gender-based violence (GBV) program in a humanitarian emergency. UNFPA’s GBV programming in humanitarian emergencies is multi-sectoral and involves implementing partners and other stakeholders from affected communities, such as NGOs and governments, UN agencies and other national and international organizations that engage in comprehensive prevention and response initiatives in accordance with a survivor-centered approach.

  • Fluency in French required, English strongly desired.
