Focus on our activities in the DRC
Our mission in the DRC has existed since 2001. PUI is developing its integrated approach there with projects in primary health and the fight against malnutrition. PUI operates in Ituri with health and nutrition projects, and in North Kivu through an integrated emergency health and nutrition approach supplemented by food security activities.
And the Zone Coordinator – North Kivu in all this?
As a Zone Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing all programs, operations and the safety and security of all personnel under your responsibility in a specific zone of the country. You will represent PUI to local stakeholders, monitor and analyze the humanitarian context, and assess needs based on the program strategy. You will also be in charge of monitoring and negotiating humanitarian access.
To this end, your responsibilities will be as follows:
- Safety and Security: In collaboration with the Head of Mission, you will be responsible for the safety and security of all PUI personnel, assets and premises in your areas of operation.
- Humanitarian Access: In collaboration with the Head of Mission, you will be responsible for negotiating humanitarian access with appropriate stakeholders at the regional level.
- Programs: You will be responsible for the adequate definition and effective implementation of projects, which are the responsibility of the program department and project managers at the grassroots level.
- Team Management: You will indirectly supervise all teams within your area of responsibility, composed of national and international staff. You will support team recruitments, new staff and HR briefings, and ensure necessary follow-up.
- Representation: You will represent PUI locally (security permitting) and foster an optimal operational space for the pursuit of PUI’s strategic priorities in coordination with all relevant entities.
- Fundraising: You will assist the Head of Mission and the Deputy Head of Programs of the mission in relations with donors and the identification of fundraising opportunities, particularly in your area.
- Coordination: You will centralize and disseminate information from/to the area and consolidate the internal and external reporting activities implemented in your area of operations before submitting them to the Head of Mission and coordination. You will ensure effective communication and dissemination of information between the area you will supervise and coordination between the field team and bases of operations.
- Strategic Assessment: You will proactively monitor the humanitarian context and needs in your area, propose, design and lead assessments and the development of appropriate interventions. You will actively participate in the development of the mission strategy.
The challenges that await you:
– Daily monitoring of the security context in order to propose mitigation measures, jointly with the Head of Mission – External representation vis-à-vis local partners (donors, NGOs, authorities, etc.) – Monitoring the implementation of new projects in course, supporting his Program Assistant – Monitoring the evolution of the humanitarian context in North Kivu in order to propose adaptations to projects, and contribute to designing new interventions
What you will need to succeed
- Training : You can have a Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, political sciences, program management, or international development preferably. You also have training in security and safety management.
- Experience : You have at least 3 years of experience in the humanitarian field and/or in the development and implementation of multi-sectoral projects, as well as at least one year of experience as a Field Coordinator or Base Manager. You have strong experience in budgetary/financial management (cost-effectiveness), as well as in the management of logistics processes, safety and security. You have also already had experience with a multitude of landlords. You have skills in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methodology, and experience in developing the capacity of national staff. - Skills : You have excellent writing skills, team and project management, external representation and negotiation, but also security management and context monitoring. You have a strong interest in negotiating humanitarian access. Knowledge of procedures relating to institutional donors (BHA, ECHO, UN agencies, etc.) as well as knowledge of health/nut programming, MHPSS and protection will be valued.
- Required qualities : You are able to work independently, take initiative and assume responsibility in a proactive approach. You are autonomous, flexible and able to adapt to the needs of the team and the organization, and have a strong commitment to humanitarian principles. You are resilient to stress, diplomatic and open-minded, have good analytical skills, are organized and know how to manage priorities and a varied workload. You ensure effective and timely results, and work with professionalism and maturity. You have problem-solving and leadership skills, as well as the ability to integrate into the local environment, taking into account its political, economic and historical characteristics.
- Languages : French and English hold no secrets for you? Good, it’s essential for this position! If you also speak Arabic, this will be an undeniable asset.

PUI will offer you

- Gross monthly salary: 2,970.00 – 3,500.00 EUR depending on your experience in international solidarity + 50€ per semester of seniority with PUI

- Break regime: 5 working days at 3 and 9 months of mission + break bonus
- Paid Leave Plan: 5 weeks of CP/year + return plane ticket home every 6 months
