Project Assistant (PA) -Infectious Diseases, Tropical Medicine Unit At Acción contra el Hambre España

One position of Project Assistant (PA) for CRESCER Project (Component IV-FRESAN Program) with experience in cooperation, malnutrition, Clinical Trials and public health.

The PA will be based in in Angola (Lubango, Huíla) and will travel often to the communities in the countryside.

The general objective of CRESCER Project is to contribute to the transfer of evidence and knowledge about the effectiveness of different specific and nutrition-sensitive actions in the context of food insecurity in south Angola to contain malnutrition and reduce child mortality under five in the provinces of Huíla and Cunene.

CRESCER Project aims to determine, through operational research and innovation, the impact of various equitable and scalable, specific and sensitive to nutrition strategies, in reducing malnutrition and mortality of children under 5 years. Direct implementation of this interventions will be done as well as analyses of their relevance, adequacy, coverage, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability and scalability that may be the basis for recommendations on future scalable interventions in reducing the indicators of chronic malnutrition in children under 5 years of age.

The PA will give technical support to the International Project Coordinator (IPC) in the responsibility for the harmonious and timely development of all project activities to ensure that the results and milestones are effectively achieved and that the criteria for their assessment are met.

He/she will contribute in ensuring that the project is carried out according to the project plan (time, cost, scope and quality), research methodology and produce the scientific reports and management.

Education and qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate in Medicine and Surgery, specially Pediatrician, Internal Medicine or General Practice)

Experience and knowledge:

Required:

  • Two years of combined national and international experience in the fields of cooperation, malnutrition, Clinical Trials or public health.

Desired:

  • Professional career strongly focused on infectious and tropical diseases, cooperation and public health. Community health interventions
  • Good adaptation to teamwork, cordiality, communication and respect. Human resources management.
  • Mature judgment, strong technical, analytical and conceptual skills; demonstrated ability to assess, analyze, synthesize and provide recommendations on key technical issues;
  • Ability to manage multiple issues and tasks in a complex organizational environment;

Main responsibilities and duties:

  • Preparation of technical documentation for the clinical trial and sub-studies.
  • Management of clinical trial supplies and medicines. Storage, stocking, recording and forecasting.
  • Monitoring of research data. Data managing
  • Supervision the work of survey takers to ensure data quality. Performing anthropometry measures and point-of-care laboratory tests whenever necessary.
  • Collaboration in the elaboration of community health workers (ADECOS) plans: management of the work of community health workers together with local partners. Technical elaboration of training materials for continuing education programs for community health workers.
  • Coordination with community activity supervisors and assistants on key messages to work on during community dialogue activities.
  • Field work together with the direct implementation teams: problem solving, clinical and research decision making when necessary.
  • Participation in intra- and inter-institutional coordination meetings. Ability to coordinate technical dialogue with other partners.
  • Support to the consortium team in the design and implementation of workshops as a tool for discussion and dissemination of knowledge
  • Support to international coordination through regular technical reporting and review of specific intervention budgets.

Labour conditions:

  • Full-time position (40h/week).
  • Starting date: January 2024.
  • Length of the contract: until end of the project (expected 2026).
