Health and family planning manager (m/f/d) in emergencies

This employment is full-time. The employment offer is initially limited until 31.12.2022.

As a team member of the “Operations & National Society Cooperation Department”, you will be responsible for the health and family planning aspects of the further development of the GRC “Emergency Response Units” (ERUs) and the corresponding personnel pool. You will contribute directly to the fulfilment of the WHO Standards for Emergency Medical Teams (EMT), on which the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and its members have made a commitment in 2020. You will be working closely with your colleagues in Berlin and in the project regions worldwide, as well as with the various components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

You will be responsible for**

Further development of the GRC Health ERUs

  • Development of the Family Planning (FP) module as part of GRC’s Health ERU (Basic Health Unit and Field Hospital) in the framework of meeting the WHO EMT minimum standards
  • Focal person for sexual and reproductive health and family planning in emergencies
  • Coordinate the development of new methodological frameworks to strengthen humanitarian assistance in the field of sexual reproductive health and family planning
  • Design and implementation of FP projects and programmes:
    • Development, piloting, and establishment of the FP module as a standardised ERU Health module of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
    • Provide content and methodological support for ongoing GRC humanitarian health/family planning projects in cooperation with country officers, regional focal points and GRC offices abroad
    • To develop a work plan to integrate and promote FP interventions within existing and new GRC health projects
  • Coordinate the stockpiling, dispatching and procurement of family planning methods and materials in close cooperation with the GRC logistic team
  • Represent GRC at relevant working and coordination meetings (e.g. annual health meeting, conferences and working groups, etc.)

Establishment of a pool of delegates for “sexual and reproductive health and family planning”.

  • Support the set-up and management of the FP personnel pool for deployments in emergency operations in coordination with the Surge/Readiness Unit
  • Planning and implementation of basic and advanced FP trainings

Miscellaneous

  • Medical and FP consultation and, if applicable, monitoring of international projects in emergencies or similar settings
  • Conceptual development of FP in emergencies (sensitisation/education; selection, access and distribution of methods; etc.) and strategic positioning of the GRC within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

Your profile

  • Relevant university/college degree or equivalent qualification in the health sector in the field of sexual and reproductive health
  • At least 5 years of work experience in the health sector and/or in humanitarian aid in the field of clinical and community-based health
  • Experience in pregnancy counselling and ideally in family planning counselling
  • Interest and ability to establish new concepts in humanitarian aid
  • Ability to think and work in complex contexts
  • As a networker you have strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team
  • You are resilient and flexible and interested in further developing your area of responsibility
  • Readiness to travel abroad (fitness for travel in tropical regions) as well as 4-6 week on emergency aid missions
  • Excellent English speaking and writing capability, German would be an asset
  • Very good IT skills, especially Windows Office 365
  • You enjoy working in a dynamic, committed, multicultural and globally active team
