Samos Volunteers (SV) is an independent group of volunteers providing hygiene, informal education and psycho-social support to people living in the Samos camp.
The Hygiene and Logistics Coordinator is responsible for the daily management and running of the two Laundry Stations and oversees the logistics of Samos Volunteers’s operation on the ground. This includes training new volunteers, coordinating the ticketing team that enters the camp and liaising with other organisations to manage the referral system.
The logistics side of the role involves inventory management of donations, responsibility for the organisation’s cars and general tasks around operational concerns. It is an exciting time to take on this coordination role, as we are currently in the process of setting up a new working location near the soon-to-open MPRIC. As an essential service, the laundry has been running throughout the last national lockdown.

Status: Full-time
Main tasks include:
- Overseeing the functioning of the Laundry Station on a daily basis;
- Ensuring machines are functioning and dealing with the necessary repairs and regular maintenance;
- Ensuring laundry stock is kept up to date;
- Liaising with Laundry Station donors and potential new donors regarding the financing of the station;
- Managing the training of new volunteers in the Laundry Station;
- Chairing the weekly Laundry Station meeting;
- Coordinating the ticketing team who enter the camp on a daily basis to distribute tickets to beneficiaries. This includes monitoring access and safety to the camp and communicating with the Volunteer Coordinator to register new volunteers for access;
- Liaising with other Organisations on the island who use the Laundry Station (for example, UNHCR, Praxis and Med’Equali Team);
- Creating and sharing general updates and statistics on the running and progress of the Laundry Station;
- Supervising (together with the Project Manager and other relevant coordinators) any developments or expansions of the Laundry Station and hygiene-related activities.
- Overseeing the logistics of our operations on the ground.
Key Requirements:
- Minimum time commitment of 6 months.
- Aged over 24.
- Fluent English skills.
- In possession of a driver license.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in project management and logistics.
- An understanding of the complexity and challenges of humanitarian work, ideally with experience in a similar organisation or environment.
- Flexibility. Living and working on Samos is constantly changing and adapting, and two days never look the same. The ability to be adaptable and flexible is extremely important.
Further information
The Coordinator will have their reasonable living expenses refunded by the organisation. This will be on average between 380-420 euros per month as well as a private room in one of our shared houses.
