Information Technology (IT) Assistant At DAI Global

BACKGROUND

The Africa Trade and Investment (ATI) Activity is designed to bolster the U.S. Government’s ability to boost trade and investment too, from, and within the African continent. The continent-wide program is USAID’s flagship effort in support of the Prosper Africa initiative and will expand and accelerate two-way trade and investment between African nations and the United States.

Driven by market demand, ATI embraces innovative approaches to achieve its goals. ATI is designed as a small, core set of centrally coordinated technical and institutional support activities and a large, flexible performance-based subcontracting and grants under contract facility designed to support the needs and opportunities that USAID Missions and the private sector identify.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The IT Assistant will support the for managing and responding to all IT and database needs, including system installations, maintenance, work closely with IT Officer on TAMIS database trouble shooting and maintenance, MEL Database design and maintenance, and provide support and technical consultations to clients. S/he will assist in ensuring that IT standards set by the DAI home office are followed and project solutions are the most efficient and cost effective. The responsibilities will also include assisting in the setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of Local Area Networks (LANs) at the project office. S/he will assist with setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of client computers and peripherals such as printers and scanners.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support in the management of IT and communications equipment, network and information systems, and security, including communication links in the program office.
  • Support ATI TAMIS database and MEL database in close coordination with TAMIS administrator and MEL database team
  • Assist in the local network maintenance and installation including cabling, switches/hubs and NIC configuration, TCP/IP, NAT, TCP/IP printing, windows network and domain services on TCP/IP
  • Support requests to Home Office System Administrators for new user accounts and TAMIS access
  • Assist in the implementation of additions, deletions and major modifications to the IT infrastructure.
  • Monitor and maintain network infrastructure including internet connections, perimeter equipment, network switches, wireless access points and printers.
  • Check computer hardware (HDD, mouses, keyboards etc.) to ensure functionality.
  • Assist with technical specifications, budget, and forecast the IT requirements for the offices and coordinate the procurement for the same and follow up on warranty claims for IT equipment.
  • Support orientation and guidance to users on operating new software and computer equipment
  • Organize and schedule upgrades, configurations and maintenance as recommended by OIMT.
  • Perform troubleshooting support to diagnose and resolve problems-repair or replace parts, or application issues as they arise.
  • Ensure compliance with DAI IT Security policies, procedures and standards.
  • Assist in maintaining an up-to-date inventory list of IT equipment.

REPORTING:

The IT Assistant will report to the IT Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT or equivalent
  • 4+ years of progressively responsible procurement experience with at least one year in NGO or international organization
  • Additional and relevant certification as IT Technician will be an advantage (e.g. A+, N+, CCNA or Microsoft Certified IT Professional)
  • Ability to troubleshoot common hardware, software and network issues
  • PC and Server support experience
  • Knowledge of Windows Server & Windows Client operating systems
  • Knowledge of Hyper-V visualization platform
  • Knowledge of Windows network services: AD. DNS, DHCP, WSUS, Print and file sharing
  • Experience with Outlook client or O365 services
  • Knowledge of backup and restore services
  • Physical and logical LAN and WAN infrastructure principles
  • Communication equipment and VPN services
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as a customer-service attitude
  • Fluency in English is required.
