Role Purpose: The Medical Director (MD), who reports to the Healthcare Program Manager, will lead and inspire colleagues across the Healthcare Program with a shared vision that reflects the unique needs of patient care delivery. The MD coordinates teams in various types of healthcare facilities, including not limited to: primary care, pediatrics, gynecology, vaccination and women’s health. The MD primary duties include ensuring efficient operation of the facility, recruiting and managing providers and other staff, collaborating in healthcare personnel recruitment.

Major Responsibilities:

CLINICAL

  1. Provide direct patient care, including preventive care, primary diagnosis and treatment
  2. Serve as a preceptor to providers in training as needed
  3. Maintains strict patient confidentiality
  4. Maintains timely documentation in medical records in accordance with established clinic protocols
  5. Participates in quality improvement activities
  6. Establishing a good collaboration with the Referral program and act as medical expert while processing referral program files
  7. Collaborating with the referral program coordinator for better analysis and better management of the referred patients

SUPERVISION

  1. Provides supervision of medical staff including selecting, orienting, and training, coaching, mentoring, disciplining, and performing timely performance reviews
  2. Responsible for directing all providers in the practice of quality care according to standards and benchmarks set by the organization, MSPP and funding agencies
  3. Assists in the achievement of productivity standards and provides leadership within the health care team to achieve those standards
  4. Approves all continuing medical education in accordance with established policies and/or contractual obligations
  5. Oversees medical chart reviews/chart audits/quality audits
  6. Develops and oversees (in conjunction with the Leadership Team) recruitment and retention program for clinical providers. Participates in the recruitment of qualified clinical staff including interviewing and recommendation for hire
  7. Monitors and assists with the new-hire orientation process to ensure consistency in training among all clinical providers
  8. Reviews re-credentialing of the clinic
  9. Handles complaints involving staff under their supervision in coordination with the Leadership team
  10. Act as the primary supervising physician for the Nurse Practitioner(s)
  11. ISE working schedule is Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00PM. Sometimes the closing hours may go beyond 4:00 pm. The Medical Director must always be on time to ensure a smooth running of the Hope for Haiti clinic.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  1. In partnership with the Healthcare Program Manager and the Dental Director, develops and monitors appropriate standards of care, quality improvement indicators, patient care protocols
  2. Serves as an active member of the Healthcare Leadership Team, attends administrative meetings as required
  3. Represents ISE to other agencies, medical groups, institutions, and the community as necessary
  4. Develops affiliations and networks to provide medical care for ISE patients.
  5. Oversees the clinical component of the quality improvement program. In partnership with the Leadership Team, develops and implements Quality Improvement Plan and Key Performance indicators
  6. Assures compliance with requirements set forth by MSPP and our healthcare grant. Performs due diligence in matters related to clinical practice in full compliance of MSPP, and other regulatory agencies.
  7. Provides additional assistance within and outside of the clinical arena, as requested and/or as appropriate, to ensure the ongoing success of the organization

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES

  1. A medical degree from an accredited medical school
  2. Valid and active medical license issued by MSPP
  3. Medical Directors must have 10 years of experience in clinical medicine and at least five years of experience in hospital administration or in previous healthcare organizations
  4. Experience working with the Ministère de la Santé Publique et de la Population (MSPP), preferably Département Sanitaire du Sud (DSS)

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a national, full-time position based in Les Cayes, Haiti. This position is NOT accompanied, and the organization provides no relocation, logistics, or housing packages. Compensation is based on Hope for Haiti’s Compensation Scale.
