Organisational context
The GPC is a network of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), international organizations and United Nations (UN) agencies, engaged in protection work in humanitarian crises including armed conflict, climate change related and natural disaster. The GPC is mandated by the IASC, led by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), governed by a Strategic Advisory Group, co-chaired by the GPC Coordinator and an operational NGO, and serviced by a multi-partner Operations Cell. The GPC unites members, partners and communities working on the full gamut of protection activities, including in four specialized Areas of Responsibility (AoRs): Child Protection, Gender-Based Violence, Housing, Land and Property and Mine Action.
The GPC Global Protection Forum 2021 is a forum where field cluster coordinators discuss the evolution of operational realities, facilitate knowledge and peer to peer exchange between cluster operations, and discuss cluster operational capacities required to respond to emerging needs and field demands. It presents opportunity to discuss contemporary and emerging protection challenges, review the strategic direction of the cluster, and plan activities to be undertaken at field and global level for the year to come.
In 2021, the GPC Forum will be held exclusively online/virtually due to Covid-19 pandemic consists of series of webinars and events spread across April to December 2021 with aim to foster interaction, cross learning and exchange between protection actors around the world. The forum proposes a comprehensive programme and organized in four segments:
- Technical and Operational segment
- A Mid-Year Thermometer Review
- A Thematic segment from
- A High-Level Annual event
The position
The overall purpose of this assignment is to support the GPC in planning and organizing the Forum. The incumbent will lead on drafting the final report the GPC Global Protection Forum.
Duties and responsibilities
The consultant will support GPC team to organize the GPC Forum Thematic segment from 13 -17 September 2021 and the GPC High-Level Annual event on 01 December 2021. More specifically, the consultant will:
• support the methodological design of the sessions and the agenda, break-out group sessions draft opening and closing remarks for the Chairs of the seasons and agenda.
• consultations with the GPC key stakeholders to design needs-based programmes.
• plan and organize Forum’s webinars and sessions.
• mobilize and communicate with the GPC Partners and stakeholders.
• provide technical support during the sessions.
• facilitate some of the sessions.
• take notes of some of the sessions.
• Draft Final report of the GPC Forum Thematic Segment
• Draft Final report of the GPC High Level Event
Monitoring and Progress Controls:
• Prepare methodological design of GPC Forum Thematic segment sessions
• Provide technical support, lead sessions and take notes during GPC Forum Thematic segment sessions
• Prepare methodological design of GPC High-Level Annual event
• Provide technical support, lead sessions and take notes during GPC High-Level Annual event
• Prepare draft Final report of the GPC Thematic segment
• Prepare draft Final report of the GPC High Level Event
Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required
• Basic University Degree in Development Studies, Economics, Law or a related field.
• 6 years of experience working in an inter-agency environment at field and/or Headquarters level.
• Understanding of humanitarian coordination processes and recent inter-agency developments related to the IASC and the broader UN.
• Experience in organising and designing events and webinars.
• Excellent Computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Access and database software
• Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and productively with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexible work attitude: the ability to work productively in a team environment and independently, and to handle requests or issues as they arise.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to successfully and effectively liaise with people in a wide range of functions in a multi-cultural environment.
• Fluency in English; language skills in Spanish and French are desirable.
Location
The successful candidate will work from home and be remotely connected to the Global Protection Cluster team in Geneva.
