Supply Chain Operations Director | Dar es Salaam, Tanzania | 2024 At Chemonics

Chemonics International, a US-based international development consulting firm seeks a Supply Chain Operations (Objective 2) Director for the anticipated USAID NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora (Better Supply, Better Health) activity to be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This activity aims to strengthen supply chain and pharmaceutical services to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, affordable health commodities and will work to develop the capacity of local systems, institutions, and individuals to sustainably manage supply chains, for both USAID-procured health commodities and those procured through national/local systems, and to strengthen local pharmaceutical management systems, including quality pharmaceutical services and national regulatory systems.

The Supply Chain Operations Director will report to the Deputy Chief of Party and lead the project objectives related to Objective 2: Tanzania’s public health supply chain and pharmaceutical management system are characterized by defined and streamlined processes and procedures that encourage adaptability to respond to changing demand and supply requirements, resulting in availability and affordability of quality products at the last mile.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and oversee interventions to strengthen supply chain operations (including forecasting and quantification, procurement, warehousing, and distribution)
  • Support commodity availability down to the last mile
  • Support improved supply chain performance to ensure the uninterrupted flow of health commodities to service delivery points

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in public health, supply chain management, institutional development, business management, finance, or related field or minimum or 10 years in related professional experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on supply chain/pharmaceutical management projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Experience working in Tanzania and deep knowledge of geo-political, ethnic, cultural, and other considerations affecting programming in Tanzania and the region is required
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Fluency in English required, Swahili desirable
