Background

For 30 years, and through our work in more than 100 countries, the American Bar Association’s Rule of Law Initiative (ABA-ROLI) and our partners have sought to strengthen legal institutions, support legal professionals, foster respect for human rights and promote understanding of the law and citizens’ rights. In collaboration with our partners in the country, including government ministries, judges, lawyers, bar associations, court administrators, legislatures, and civil society organizations, we design programs that are accountable for local needs and that prioritize sustainable solutions for Urgent challenges to the rule of law.

Description for the position of Oral Litigation and Criminal Investigation Consultant

The ABA ROLI office in Mexico offers lawyers specialized in oral litigation techniques in criminal matters as well as experts with knowledge in investigative techniques related to Criminal Law, the possibility of participating as instructors in the Oral Litigation Workshop Course and Workshop Courses of Criminal Investigation.

The program primarily seeks to support and strengthen Mexico’s consolidation of its Criminal Justice System by providing training in criminal investigation and litigation techniques for law schools. It is designed to provide Mexican law students with enhanced skills to operate in the adversarial system.

The consultant’s participation will be as instructor and speaker in oral litigation workshops or criminal investigation workshops.

Duration:

Cursos de litigación oral: tienen una duración 5 días, cada día será de 8 horas divididas de la siguiente manera:

  • 4 horas (ponencias, talleres).
  • 4 horas (Elaboración de diapositivas, videos educativos, tareas).

Cursos de investigación criminal: los consultores participan 1 o 2 días, 8 horas cada día, divididas de la siguiente forma:

  • 4 horas (ponencias, talleres).
  • 4 horas (Elaboración de diapositivas, videos educativos, tareas).

Responsabilidades:

  • Atender las comunicaciones con el personal de ABA ROLI México.
  • Asistir a las reuniones que programe el personal de ABA ROLI México.
  • Enviar en tiempo la documentación e información administrativa que le requiera el personal de ABA ROLI México.
  • Estar preparado y conectado 30 minutos antes al inicio de cualquier actividad con ABA ROLI México.
  • Entregar en tiempo los materiales que le sean requeridos por el personal de ABA ROLI México (diapositivas, videos, actividades, etc.).
  • Utilizar material (videos, imágenes, documentos) de dominio público, que no vulneren derechos de autor o la propiedad intelectual de otras personas.
  • Conducirse durante el desarrollo de las actividades con los más altos estándares de ética y profesionalismos en sus relaciones con el staff de ABA ROLI y otros colegas consultores y participantes.
  • Contar con los instrumentos tecnológicos suficientes (Internet y equipos digitales) para poder desempeñar su trabajo sin dificultades técnicas durante sus intervenciones.
  • Revisar y dar seguimiento a las actividades y preguntas que los participantes tengan durante el desarrollo del curso.

Calificaciones Básicas

  • Título universitario en Derecho, Titulo de criminalística de campo o ciencias forenses;
  • Contar con fomación especializada en técnicas de litigación oral o investigación criminal.
  • Experiencia como docente en materias de téncias de litigación oral o investigación criminal;
  • Experiencia como conferencista en temas de litigación oral penal o investigación criminal;
  • Gestión de plataformas virtuales (redes sociales y aulas virtuales);
  • Fluidez profesional en español (oral y escrito).

El/La consultora debe ser organizado, orientado al detalle, profesional, eficiente, ético, responsable, confiable, flexible, tener fuertes habilidades de comunicación, capaz para completar el trabajo hasta el final.

Calificaciones preferidas

  • Título de Maestría en Derecho Penal o especializaciones en temas relacionados con la investigación de delitos;
  • Experiencia de trabajo en un entorno profesional con personas de diversos orígenes culturales;
  • Experiencia trabajando como consultor a distancia, con el uso de plataformas de video conferencia.

Description for the Consultant in oral litigation and criminal investigation position

ABA ROLI Mexico office is offering to expert lawyers in oral litigations skills and criminal investigation techniques related to criminal law, the possibility of performing oral litigation workshops and criminal investigation workshops.

The program primarily seeks to support and strengthen Mexico’s consolidation of this New Criminal Justice System by providing capacity building in oral litigation and criminal investigation for law schools. It is specifically designed to provide Mexican law students with enhanced skills for operating in the accusatorial system.

The consultant will participate as an online professor providing key conferences in oral litigation workshops or criminal investigation workshops.

Duration:

Oral litigation workshops: Have a duration of 5 days, each day of 8 hours of activities separated as follows:

  • 4 hours: key conferences.
  • 4 hours: Developing materials such as videos, lectures and tasks to performed.

Criminal investigation workshop: the consultants participate for 1 or 2 days, 8 hours each one, divided as follows:

  • 4 hours: key conferences.
  • 4 hours: Developing materials such as videos, lectures and tasks to performed.

Responsibilities:

  • Responding to communications with ABA ROLI Mexico staff,
  • Attending meetings scheduled by ABA Mexico staff,
  • Presenting on time the documentation and administrative information required by ABA ROLI Mexico staff,
  • Be connected to the platform with ABA ROLI staff 30 minutes before the activity starts,
  • Delivering materials required by ABA ROLI Mexico staff (power point slides, videos, etc) on time
  • Using materials (videos, pictures or documents) which do not violate copyright laws.
  • During the activity the consultant must conduct with the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in their relationships with ABA ROLI staff and other consultants and participants.
  • Having sufficient technological equipment (laptops with camera and internet connection) in order to carry out their assignments without any technical difficulties during their interventions.
  • Reviewing and following up on the activities and questions that participants have during the workshop.

Skills required:

  • Law Degree or Degree in criminal or forensic sciences,
  • Specialized training in oral litigation skills or criminal investigation techniques
  • Experience as a professor in matters of oral litigations skills or criminal investigations techniques,
  • Experience in presenting key conferences related to oral litigation skills or criminal investigations sciences and techniques,
  • Experience in virtual platforms management (social network and online classrooms)
  • Fluent in Spanish (written and speaking)

The consultant must be organized, detail-oriented, professional, efficient, ethical, responsible, trustworthy, flexible, have strong communications skills, capable of completing tasks to the end.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master´s degree in Criminal Law or specializations in topic related to criminal investigations or forensic sciences,
  • Experience in professional environment with people from diverse cultures,
  • Experience working as an online professor, using video conference platforms.
