Country Director Myanmar* At Welthungerhilfe

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Yangon, Myanmar.

Since 2002, Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Myanmar has been contributing to improve the nutritional status of Myanmar’s most vulnerable population by providing access to food, nutrition training and livelihood support. Humanitarian assistance is an integral part of the country programme, with a focus in recent years on internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in geographical areas affected by armed conflict and displacement. As Country Director, you will be responsible for managing WHH’s impact oriented country programme. In doing so, you take into consideration the overall WHH strategy and mandate and ensure adherence to WHH quality standards. You will be responsible for a sound financial management of allocated funds as well as for the acquisition of additional funding. In addition, you will take over responsibility for security management to assure the safety and security of your employees, projects and the organisation as a whole.

Your responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for the development, implementation and review of the WHH country strategy in Myanmar and Cambodia
  • Take on responsibility for a newly established non-profit company to balance the risk of project activities
  • Ensure sound financial management of allocated funds
  • Ensure acquisition of funding from private and institutional donors with a focus on diversifying the donor portfolio
  • Ensure that country structures and processes are set up in accordance with WHH procedures and quality standards
  • Manage expatriate and national project staff and ensure compliance with security regulations
  • Maintain and expand the cooperation with national and international partners
  • Maintain regular information exchange with Head Office in Bonn and other Country Offices
  • Update and ensure the application of disaster and potential crisis preparedness plans based on the country-specific situation

Your profile

  • A university or college degree in a relevant field such as International Development Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid, Management, Geography or Agricultural Sciences
  • At least 10 years of project management and relevant leadership experience in international humanitarian aid/development cooperation, preferably in the region
  • Experience in security/crisis management
  • Relevant knowledge of the German and UN donor environment
  • Excellent HR Management skills
  • Coordination and organisational skills – even under a high workload
  • Cultural sensitivity and willingness to work in a multinational team
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries
  • Excellent spoken and written English
