About the Role

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Policy Officer to provide technical support to the Mozambique Senior Policy Advisor and Nourishing Food Pathway (NFP) MZ workstream 1.1 (WS1.1) manager in ensuring the program delivery, as well as in the delivery of country’s activities related to the Nourishing Food Pathways Mozambique Work Package. This role will be offered on a two and a half(2.5) year fixed term contract, subject to availability of funding and will be based in Maputo, Mozambique.

This position will provide support to the Mozambique Senior Policy Advisor in its overall policy & advocacy activities implementation so that overall country policy & advocacy milestones and goals are met.

It will also support to strengthen GAIN Mozambique’s policy and advocacy work and its ability to engage with and influence global, national, and sub-national policy processes with food systems approach as to ensure that the policy and advocacy interventions led by GAIN and by its different partners under the country’s policy influencing agenda goals are met.

The Policy Officer will support and contribute to country’s policy, advocacy and capacity building efforts as well as supporting with the implementation of ongoing policy initiatives and those that will emerge during the timeframe of this work position.

This role will work under the management and supervision of the Mozambique Senior Policy Advisor as the country manager for the NFP-WS1.1 and Country Coordinator for the Moz NFP Work Package and will support the implementation of related policy & advocacy activities.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical and operational support to Mozambique’s Senior Policy Advisor in ensuring the delivery of programs and country activities related to Nourishing Food Pathway (NFP) MZ workstream 1.1.
  • Support and contribute to relevant policy desk research, literature reviews, and other research analysis.
  • Contribute to contentment development, research and drafting of policy papers and briefs, factsheets, success stories and other documents which synthesize GAIN learnings, values, and priorities.
  • Support in the operational and logistic preparation of overall policy programmatic and field activities.
  • Support technically and operationally in the planning and preparation of internal and external meetings, events, convenings and trips; prepare reports and follow-up.
  • Support in consultant contracting processes concerning to preparation of Terms of Reference, drafting, approval and implementation including timely financial disbursements and reporting tracking.
  • Support in both internal and external stakeholders’ engagement, policy, external relations and communications management.

About you

The ideal candidate should have experience conducting desk research, literature reviews, and other research analysis and synthesize findings. Proven track record in supporting policy and advocacy programs and activities especially on public policies related to food systems and nutrition.

You should be highly organized, and detail oriented as this position will support the Senior Policy Advisor on operational and logistical components of programming in addition to having experience in supporting stakeholder convenings for advocacy and policy influencing.

The position holder should have an education background with a degree in a relevant field such as agriculture, economics, nutrition, public health, public policies, progressive experience in a similar role.

Certificates and diplomas in relevant capacity and work experience in Nutrition, Public Policy/, Public Program Administration, Public Health or a suitable equivalent would be an added advantage on top of the degree.

About our Offer

The starting gross salary on offer for this role is from USD 22’059 – USD 25’245 gross per annum, depending on experience.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the United Nations in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition.
