Context
This UNV assignment will be part of OCHA’s Regional Liaison Office (OCHA RLO) and will be directly assigned to supporting the Office’s work on coordinating the humanitarian response to the Occupied Palestine territory from Egypt.
Following the dramatic events that took place in Israel and oPt on 7 October, OCHA RLO has been scaling up and supporting the humanitarian community’s efforts to provide assistance to the oPt from Egypt.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of Head of coordination, the UN Volunteer will:
• Support coordinated humanitarian operational preparedness for, and response to the emergency in the oPt.
• Monitor, analyse and report on humanitarian developments, disaster relief/management or emergency situations in oPt;
• Follow developments in oPt, keep relevant country profile up-to-date, interact with the Resident Coordinator’s Office coordination specialist, and highlight any issues of concern to feed into the daily operational update.
• Produce analytical notes to better understand political and conflict dynamics in the region, in support of preparedness and operational work in the region.
• Make contacts and nurture relationships with key interlocuters in your countries of responsibility and thematic areas.
• Develop or feed into any country/thematic reports/documents that might be required e.g. snapshots, outlooks, sitreps, etc.
• Assist in the production of appeals for international assistance – including Humanitarian Needs Overviews, Humanitarian Response Plans and Flash Appeals – in the region, with a focus on oPt.
• Organize and participate in meetings, conferences and consultations with other agencies and partners on humanitarian and emergency relief-related matters in the region, with a focus on oPt.
Living conditions and remarks
Cairo, Egypt is a family duty station with a wide range of services (health, education and leisure) and good living conditions. It has long been a center of the region’s political and cultural life, with high levels of tourism. Like other similar cities, Cairo offers good quality of life in terms of access to shopping centers, banks, medical services, educational facilities, cultural events, etc. The Arab Republic of Egypt has a unique geographical position in Northeast Africa, at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, on the Mediterranean and Red Sea, and its connection to Sub Saharan Africa through the Nile Valley.
UN Specialist Volunteer gets the following package:
• Volunteer Living Allowance (around EGP 21,234.08/Month)
• Entry Lump-Sum = USD 400 (one-time payment paid in EGP)
• Exit Lump-Sum upon completion of contract.

Nationality
Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
Requirements
Required experience
3 years of experience in coordination, reporting, progressively responsible experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, rehabilitation, development, or other related area is required.
