Versatile collective life support agent M/F At Doctors Without Borders

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) opened the Jacques Pinel Center (CJP) in Bordeaux-Mérignac, a place dedicated to sharing experiences and developing humanitarian practices and technical systems.

This center helps provide quality training to teams deployed in MSF operational areas with the aim of improving the humanitarian assistance provided to populations whose lives or health are threatened.

Its location on the site of MSF Logistique , a non-profit association under the 1901 law and MSF’s central purchasing and supply center, promotes synergies between the different professions, supporting MSF’s operations, as well as R&D activities in the field of humanitarian logistics.

As part of the development of its activities at the training center, Médecins Sans Frontières is looking for a versatile agent to support collective life.

Mission

Challenge of the center’s activity :

The missions of the CJP:

  • The center continuously hosts mission briefings and internal training for the benefit of all MSF teams, including those from other operational centers of the MSF movement.
  • The center also hosts “job seminar” type events, organized by MSF support departments, in which other humanitarian organizations sometimes participate.
  • It offers a space for testing and large-scale deployment of new emergency devices promoting innovation and the development of new practices.
  • It allows operational personnel to carry out maneuvers in operational conditions.
  • It facilitates interactions between the MSF Logistics teams (MSF field purchasing and supply center), and those of the operational centers in charge of missions.

The CJP’s activity objectives:

  • Organize the programming of professional training planned by the operational sections of MSF;
  • Welcome session participants with full board;
  • Provide and maintain all educational and operational logistical equipment necessary for the smooth running of training sessions;
  • Guarantee the proper functioning of equipment and buildings welcoming participants.

The CJP is made up of:

  • An accommodation building (42 to 62 beds);
  • An administrative and catering building;
  • A mixed building (offices and accommodation – 10 beds);
  • A building of 1,500 m2 including 1,200 m2 dedicated to technical workshops (water, sanitation, energy, telecommunications, biomedical, etc.) as well as the storage of educational materials;
  • Technical educational infrastructures allowing manipulations close to real conditions of use (watsan, radio, etc.);
  • An outdoor deployment space (field hospitals, tents, vaccination circuit, etc.).

Purpose :

Facilitate the collective life of users of the Jacques Pinel training center. Participate in the life of the center. Ensure the proper functioning of the installations dedicated to the living spaces at the center and carry out first-level repairs.

Activities :

Under the responsibility of the training center manager, you will carry out the following missions:

Participate in the development of projects facilitating collective life and interactions through socio-cultural events and activities:

  • Facilitate collective life by ensuring daily communication with users (development of tools, improvement of reception conditions) in conjunction with the rest of the team
  • Ensure good transversal, internal and external communication and be proactive
  • Collect and manage specific requests (loss of baggage, medical appointments, urgent purchases, transport, etc.) in conjunction with the reception team
  • Guarantee a presence as support during activities and events
  • Ensure the provision of the necessary equipment for the various events organized during the evenings and/or weekends in conjunction with the technical team
  • Promote the smooth running of activities by ensuring that equipment is in good condition:
  • Ensure and enforce safety rules for property and people
  • Carry out small necessary repairs in accommodation and collective living areas
  • Perform first level corrective maintenance if necessary
  • Check the good working condition of the infrastructures
  • Carry out regular inventory of installations and report failures

Professional skills :

  • Organizational skills – Autonomy – Teamwork
  • Manual skills essential (small repairs, DIY, maintenance, DIY)
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Mastery of basic computer tools
  • B license required

Languages : Fluent French and good level of spoken English.

Required qualities

Qualifications : No specific qualifications required.

Experience : You have experience in a similar position in the concierge, entertainment or personal service sector. You are aware of humanitarian issues and in particular the MSF movement.

Job specifics

Status : 4-month part-time fixed-term contract 28 hours/week (80%). Agent position for MSF, an association based in Mérignac (33).

Salary conditions : €32.12K gross annually over 13 months, based on full time.

Availability : Immediate.
