A major player in the social and solidarity economy, the French Red Cross manages a network of more than 600 establishments and services in the health, medico-social and training sectors. She is also at the head of 12 regional health and social training institutes.
Internationally, the CRF operates in 16 countries alongside National Societies and 2 regional platforms (PIRAC and PIROI), on the following themes: Health and Disaster Risk Management.
In the same way as in the professions that it develops and implements in France, the French Red Cross internationally places all its missions in a sustainable humanitarian action plan. This results in an articulation of emergency, post-emergency, crisis exit and reconstruction activities aimed at maximum efficiency. The objective is to carry out actions with lasting effects and to allow populations to regain their complete autonomy.
Our association also wants to strengthen its presence and the promotion of its priority commitments within the International Movement.
By joining us, you will share our commitment and ethics and develop your skills.
The French Red Cross (CRF) in the Indian Ocean and Madagascar:
The Indian Ocean Regional Intervention Platform (CRF-PIROI)
The PIROI, created in 2000 by the French Red Cross, based in Reunion Island, is made up of different members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, its program has the main objective of “reducing the impact of disasters natural and health conditions and the effects of climate change on populations”. It carries out activities integrated into the disaster management cycle, including disaster risk reduction; disaster preparedness; emergency response and post-emergency rehabilitation. To urgently respond to the needs of the populations, the platform has acquired more than 500 tonnes of humanitarian equipment prepositioned in 8 regional warehouses.
The PIROI depends on the Directorate of International Operations of the FIU.
The delegation of the French Red Cross in Madagascar:
Since the creation of the PIROI in 2000, the CRF has established a close relationship with the Malagasy Red Cross. A permanent delegation of the FIU was present in Madagascar from 2006 to 2012. Projects in water, hygiene and sanitation, food security, disaster risk reduction and even first aid were carried out there.
In September 2022, the French Red Cross reopened a delegation in September 2022 to strengthen its action in disaster risk management. In support of the Malagasy Red Cross, the French Red Cross (CRF), the German Red Cross (CRA) and the Luxembourg Red Cross (CRL) have decided to form a consortium (lead CRA) in order to develop a program under funding from the European Union (PPP ECHO), aiming to strengthen local action in humanitarian and health crises in Madagascar.
