Senior Humanitarian Advisor – Rosters and deployment At Danish Red Cross

The Danish Red Cross (DRC) is seeking a Senior Humanitarian Advisor who will be overall responsible for the effective mobilization of human resources for DRC emergency responses and hereby the systems in place to support this. This enables DRC to have technically strong human capacities that can be deployed for the DRC, IFRC and ICRC. The Senior Humanitarian Advisor will not only be an instrumental part of deployments of professionals from DRC rosters (ERU/deployment rosters) but also ensure the efficient set-up and implementation of the surge and secondment mechanism overall including managing the DRC emergency rosters consisting of DRC staff and externals.

The Senior Humanitarian Advisor will be placed in the The Disaster & Crisis Response Unit of Danish Red Cross consist of thirty colleagues in four teams: Global Response, Supply Chain, Warehouse and Training & Rosters. The Unit sets the direction and framework for DRC’s emergency response, maintains operational surge capacity to assist countries in acute emergencies and manages DRC’s emergency funds.The position is based in the Training and Roster team but works closely with colleagues across teams and departments in DRC as well as with stakeholders within IFRC and ICRC.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Coordinating emergency deployments from the DRC rosters from identification of candidates to practical arrangements for departure in collaboration the Administrative Coordinator, HR, and other stakeholders.
  • Continuously developing and coordinating the DRC emergency roster system, including close dialogue with the (technical) Roster Managers, planning recruitment and training for roster members.
  • Coordinating the DRC surge & secondment contribution with partners multilaterally (IFRC and ICRC) and bilaterally with DRC Country Offices.
  • Initiate and engage in activities to optimise the surge & secondment mechanism, including the deployment workflow, data management, administrative procedures etc.

We expect that you have (some) of the following:

  • Relevant academic background, e.g., master in social sciences
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience that demonstrates experience or transferable skills relevant for the position. Experience with roster management, emergency deployments and multinational stakeholder engagement is considered an asset.
  • Relevant international work experience from humanitarian or development contexts
  • Excellent English language skills. Other languages such as French and Arabic an advantage
  • Can work sometimes during evenings or weekends due to deployment of delegates with short notice. Essential.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, networking, and facilitation skills.
  • Full proficiency in Microsoft Office.
