Role & Responsibilities

Develop, monitor and evaluate the assigned health and nutrition (H&N) project, with support from sector advisors. Develop lead implementation and ensure adequate monitoring and evaluation for effective management and reporting on the project activities in line with the objectives, time frame and budget with a focus on nutrition system strengthening, training and coordination. Provide technical support and leadership, manage and train nutrition staff to meet quality standards in nutrition delivery, anticipate, plan, and contribute to the development of new nutrition project proposals and reports.

Project Overview

The Health and Nutrition Project Manager has a vital role to play in improving the overall health and nutritional situation of the target population. This involves implementing quality health and nutrition services and contributing to the achievement of proposed objectives within the planned timescale and budget, for the areas of responsibility within the health and nutrition project. Important responsibilities include designing the intervention to address the needs, monitoring and making the necessary amendments to ensure the interventions are still relevant, building the capacity of the local health and nutrition team by providing appropriate and relevant supervision, training, and technical support; contributing to monitoring and reporting on project progress; and liaising with community leaders and health and nutrition officials as required.

Key Activity Areas

Health and Nutrition Project Management

  • Responsible for the implementation of the Health and Nutrition project in order to meet the project objectives and outputs within allocated budget and within the allotted time frame, and report promptly any operational concerns to line manager
  • Ensure the quality of the program, including remote management and supervision of health and nutrition services, with potential project sites visits security allowing
  • Budget holder: ensure spending is inline with approved budget
  • Coordinate medicine and medical supply procurement and distribution in coordination with the implementing local partner, logistics Manager, PC and H&N Advisor. Monitor remotely the stock consumption rates at the assigned health facilities.
  • Provide input into the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability in all aspects of the project.
  • Oversee the process of data generation, reporting, analysis and use it to measure health and nutrition indicators set by Medair and national and international indicators (Done remotely and in-person if security allows)
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities for internal and external reports as requested.
  • Lead needs assessments and proposal writing for new funding opportunities.

Staff Management

  • Manage and oversee the assigned team (and/or SMOH seconded staff) including recruitment, day-to-day management, training, and appraisals.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings with the assigned team, reviewing team and individual objectives, ensuring team members are kept informed of issues relevant to their work and providing an opportunity for feedback.
  • Ensure the assigned team members receive relevant and appropriate supervision, coaching, mentoring, and training to develop their personal and professional skills, knowledge, and understanding.
  • Promote the health and security of the team by ensuring the application of security guidelines, health, and safety in the workplace and healthy living conditions and practices.

Communication and Coordination

  • Develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent, and supportive communication structures with the assigned health team, Medair senior team and other relevant external stakeholders (e.g., beneficiaries, community leaders, local and national government officials, UN agencies, clusters and other NGOs). (Done remotely and in-person if security allows)
  • Represent Medair at relevant local level coordination meetings involving local authorities, UN agencies, and other NGOs.

Logistics

  • Be able to forecast necessary medications for the assigned health facilities.
  • Provide weekly and monthly stock consumption lists for assigned health facilities.

Quality management:

  • Closely coordinate with the Health and Nutrition Advisor for following the standard community of practices set by Medair and available in-country national guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping of all activities at the health and nutrition facilities. Done remotely and in-person if security allows
  • Collect, review, and submit required daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Carry out required quality checks according to internal, international and national checklists.
  • Ensure the functionality of feedback mechanism and AAP from beneficiaries.
  • Clinical supportive supervision and conducting on job training as security allows. Done remotely and in-person where security allows
  • Participate in health and nutrition assessment and reporting as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Public health degree, or clinical degree (nurse, midwife, or doctor) with higher degree in public health
  • Good English (spoken and written)

Experience

  • 2-3 years professional work experience in public health and nutrition sector.
  • At least 1 years working experience in humanitarian emergency response.
  • Organised, works well under pressure
  • Ability to assist teams when needed
  • Leadership skills and team player
  • Adaptable & willing to take on additional tasks
  • Fast learner who can perform under stress
  • Good communicator, able to prioritise tasks
  • Able to plan and organise people and projects
  • Able to plan activities based on tight project objectives

All new deploying international staff to Medair’s country programmes (and other roles which require field travel) should be fully vaccinated with a WHO-approved COVID vaccine, supported with a COVID vaccination certificate as evidence.
