Diálogo Intercultural Mexicano A.C (DIME) is a humanitarian, neutral, secular, and non-profit organization of Mexican civil society that promotes intercultural dialogue to contribute to a future that is equitable, diverse, and harmonious, where each individual can develop their full potential. DIME addresses the challenge of forced migration through multisectoral programs that mobilize university communities to catalyze their capacities and achieve their goals. DIME forges partnerships with higher education institutions, international agencies, civil society, and the private sector. Since 2015, DIME has experience in receiving and integrating refugees into the higher education system in Mexico.

Since 2021, DIME has worked hand in hand with the United States Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI)implementing the U.S. Mexico Border Program. This collaboration has resulted in a transition in which the two organizations come together to expand the impact of the programs.

USCRI, established in 1911, is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to addressing the needs and rights of refugees and immigrants. USCRI, in collaboration with its affiliates, provides legal, social, and health services to refugees, unaccompanied migrant children, survivors of trafficking, and other immigrants in the 50 states, El Salvador, Honduras, Kenya, and Mexico. USCRI advocates for the rights of refugees and immigrants both nationally and globally, helping to drive policies, practices, and laws.

About the internship program

DIME’s internship program seeks for people who have different profiles to support the team in different areas of the organization. The applicants will be matched to an area or program based on their motivations, interests, previous experiences, academic background and skills.

Job Specifications: Full-time. In the city of Aguascalientes, Mexico. No salary, but small compensation and housing including services granted.

Work experience: Previous experience in work, internships or volunteering in the humanitarian sector, with NGOs, or in areas related to human rights, vulnerable populations or migration is desirable.

Studies: Bachelor’s degree completed or currently a student in International Relations/Political Science/Communication/Social Work or related studies.

*Master’s degree is desirable.

Language: Proficient in English and Spanish, or good command of oral, written and reading comprehension skills in either one of the two languages or both.

Computer skills: Excellent domain of Microsoft Office and Google Suite (Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides).

Evaluations: The positions are subjected to mid-term performance review.

Internship period: July to December (6 months).

Responsibilities

The responsibilities will be related to the specific area of the internship, the following is a brief description of the intern’s role in each area.

Programs Management

Is the area that manages efforts with the DIME programs coordinators in order to follow up on the implementation.

The objective of the intern in this area is to support DIME´s Program Director and the organization’s programs to plan, supervise, and meet the objectives

Tasks may include:

  • Attend internal and external meetings with different stakeholders to take notes and potentially follow up on meetings,
  • Create a news brief to track any important updates regarding the programs,
  • Support the programs in creating documents and material, including manuals, reports, and presentations, Create tools that facilitate the program management of the organization, including updating the Program Coordination Manual,
  • If required, help programs in small tasks of the program implementation (participate in interviews, translate documents, participate in meetings, organize a visit and others).
