BACKGROUND
In 2019, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) established the FSC Indigenous Foundation (FSC- IF) to enable an enabling environment to guarantee the rights of Indigenous Peoples and promote sustainable forest-based solutions within 300 million hectares of Indigenous forests on the planet. The vision of the FSC-IF is that Indigenous Peoples’ global values, rights, livelihoods, ecosystem services, natural capital and communities are incorporated into forest governance, climate change governance and market systems. The FSC-IF has an Indigenous perspective driven by Indigenous values, vision, principles, ancestral knowledge, and traditional practices connected to Mother Earth. It responds to key challenges and opportunities faced by Indigenous Peoples to achieve their self-development, self-governance, and self-reliance.
OBJECTIVE
The FSC-IF seeks a Communications and Digital Media Assistant to support the implementation of the global communication strategy of the Foundation, especially in digital communications, graphic design, and administrative processes, working in close collaboration with the Program and Communications Officer, FSC-IF staff and governance bodies, FSC staff, and various stakeholders including Indigenous Peoples organizations.
Key responsibilities
• Assist with content creation and monitoring for all social media networks of the FSC Indigenous Foundation.
• Write and post articles to the FSC Indigenous Foundation website.
• Translating content into four languages with the help of translation software.
• Keep the website up to date with articles, job offers, project results, resources, and any other maintenance required.
• Create and modify graphic design for social media content, newsletters, reports, etc ensuring compliance with the FSC-IF brand guide and the brand guides of our projects.
• Support with graphic design of FSC-IF reports and deliverables, liaising with consultants as needed.
• Create and edit multi-media content (video, podcasts, audiograms), liaising with consultants as needed.
• Take photos and videos at workshops, meetings, events and field visits for various FSC-IF programs and projects.
• Provide support in the procurement, finance, and administration processes.
• Support media monitoring and tracking relevant news with the help of software.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Program and Communication Officer consistent with the overall focus of the assignment.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, digital media, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of relevant professional experience in communications, journalism or multimedia production preferably supporting programs, projects, or initiatives related to Indigenous Peoples, community development, environment, and similar areas.
• Experience managing social media for an organization.
• Experience with graphic design and related software.
• Experience with photography and videography preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and capacity to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and spoken Spanish or French required, and the ability to communicate in English. Knowledge of Portuguese, or an Indigenous language is an added advantage.
• Demonstrated experience in handling a computer and such environments and software as MS Office, communication platforms (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, and others), and other software.
• Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms (e.g., social media management tools, WordPress, content management systems, graphic design software).
• Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diversity of values, views, and approaches to issues relevant to the FSC-IF and Indigenous Peoples.
• Being a member of an Indigenous community or speaking an Indigenous language would be an added advantage.
