SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, for more than 40 years, has provided relief to populations victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters by responding to vital needs, drinking, eating and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI implements through its interventions expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and promotion hygiene but also in the essential aspect of food security and means of existence. Present in more than 20 countries, the SI teams – 2,500 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at headquarters, a few volunteers, etc. – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultures.
THE MISSION
Since March 2020, SI has been operating in France to respond to the COVID 19 health crisis in four territories. Our projects target people living in degraded housing sites such as shanty towns, camps or squats and in particular having limited access to basic services, in terms of drinking water, sanitation, and access to hygiene products. first need. In times of health crisis, “unconnected” people are more vulnerable and, more than ever, need access to these Water, Hygiene and Sanitation services to be able to apply barrier gestures and improve their living conditions.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Main objective :
The community mobilizer implements, in tandem with the Water Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) Project Manager, projects to improve living conditions on precarious housing sites, from the perspective of participation beneficiaries and accountability to them.
He/she participates in coordination, representation and advocacy activities in the area.
The community mobilizer is required to take part in WASH diagnosis, intervention and distribution activities in the area. He/she has the mission of mobilizing the beneficiaries of our interventions, analyzing social dynamics within the site, and proposing risk mitigation solutions regarding the risks of privatization, monetization or any other form of influence.
The mobilizer may also be required to mediate between institutional and technical services and residents of places of precarious housing on issues related to living conditions (town hall, metropolitan services, collection of waste, water services, etc…
Main Challenges:
Strong interpersonal skills, with fluid communication and a sense of teaching.
Knowledge of work in squats and shantytowns
Knowledge of mediation work with precarious populations
Non-French speaking public (including knowledge of Romanian required)
Priorities for the first 2/3 months:
- Understanding of the Marseille context (partners and associative fabric) and the dynamics of the intervention sites
- Intervention in the context of the installation of sanitary infrastructure – showers/toilets – (mobilization of residents, facilitation of appropriation and collective use).
- Monitoring/Development of activity in vertical squats and unworthy habitats
YOUR PROFILE
Experiences and technical skills:
- 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian field
- A first experience in a similar position
- Community Mobilization Techniques
- Knowledge of interventions with vulnerable groups
- Supervision of volunteers, beneficiaries and partners
- Knowledge of the functioning of the associative environment and social support
- Representation to residents of precarious housing sites, associations and specific services

IF WILL OFFER YOU THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS
A salaried position: Depending on experience, from EUR 2,865 gross per month (basic salary EUR 2,578.5 + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly).
