We work closely together with partners and with international networks such as WHO, the International Federation of Anti-Leprosy Associations (ILEP) and Global Partnership for Zero Leprosy. We will continue to build up and invest in those partnerships, and motivate relevant stakeholders to work jointly towards zero leprosy. To realise this an advocacy approach that can be contextualized to country specific circumstances, to inspire and encourage us to effectively influence policies and practices, is required.
Therefore we are looking for an: Advocacy Lead (40 hours per week)
Our new Advocacy Lead will coordinate and guide the NLR Alliance efforts to ensure primarily:
- That governments endorse, fund, implement and scale-up prevention of leprosy.
And:
- That duty bearers adopt and implement policies and programmes that enable people affected by leprosy to realise their rights and to have access to essential services.
The NLR Advocacy Lead will be based in New Delhi, India.
What will you do as NLR Advocacy Lead?
At NLR Alliance level (20%)
- Coordinate and facilitate the development of the NLR Alliance-wide Advocacy Strategy
- Advise on indicators and ensure that outcome harvesting is used for analysis to learn from and improve on advocacy approaches
- Set up an NLR Alliance Advocacy group to align initiatives and stimulate cross-learning
- Provide guidance to national NGOs on their country-specific advocacy tasks and build advocacy capacity within the NLR Alliance.
At NLR India level (50%)
- Formulate and implement a contextualized Advocacy Strategy.
- Establish and maintain relationships with partners.
- Facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue to get them on board.
- Align advocacy strategies and communication strategies through collaboration
At international level (30%)
- Conduct stakeholder mapping for the international context in which the NLR Alliance operates in close collaboration with relevant NLR staff.
- Build and maintain relationships with international stakeholders with the aim to seek support for NLR’s strategic goals.
Your profile and experience
As an advocacy expert, you will balance excellent networking and coordination skills with strong communication in a multicultural context. You have strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills with proven ability to build solid relationships around advocacy targets. You work independently. The following competencies are essential for this position: strategic thinking, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and resilience. Furthermore we are looking for a candidate that relates to the following:
- At least 10 years of experience in advocacy and policy influencing at the level of the Indian national government and in the international arena of the global health sector.
- A Master-level degree in public health, international relations or a related field.
- Proven experience conducting political economy analyses.
- Experience in working with international organisations, NGOs, and government agencies.
- Excellent communication, writing, presentation and representation skills in English and Hindi and/or other Indian languages, including experience with press.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, diplomatic and convincing skills.
- A proven track record in developing and implementing successful advocacy approaches.
