The Opportunity
CARE is a leading international humanitarian aid organisation fighting global poverty, with a special focus on working with women and girls to bring lasting change to their communities.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Country Director to join the CARE International (CI) team. This is a dynamic and interesting position for someone to play a key role in implementing the strategic direction of our Country Office.
As Country Director, you’ll be responsible for the overall planning and management of CARE International’s development and humanitarian program, and Country Office activities in PNG.
Working as a member of CARE Australia, you’ll ensure that CARE Australia’s corporate policies are implemented in PNG as well as ensuring that all legal requirements and agreements for program operation are in place. The responsibilities outlined below will be realised in accordance with CARE International’s values, Vision2030 and CI Papua New Guinea’s Long-Term Program Strategy.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Overseeing a process of ensuring CARE’s support to PNG transforms to be as local as possible and is led by those most impacted
- Promoting the Vision, Mission and Principles of CARE International and ensuring consistency with provisions of the CARE International Code in CI’s operations in PNG
- Contributing to the development, promulgation and implementation of CARE Australia’s strategic intent, and corporate policies and practices
- Responsibility for the effective management of the CARE PNG overall program portfolio of development and humanitarian programs
- Responsibility for the overall performance and management of CARE PNG’s workforce
- Effectively managing all assets and financial resources of CARE PNG
- Seeking and securing funding and financing of projects through the maintenance of strong relationships with major donors and multilateral organisations, through the preparation of project proposals, and through timely reporting on existing projects
- Overall responsibility for the safety and security of all CARE in PNG’s staff in-country and safeguarding of all organisational assets and operations
- Liaising and working closely with teams within CARE Australia including our Fundraising and Public Engagement Team, our Senior Management Team, and other relevant employees
Ideally You Will Have:
- Senior operational management experience demonstrating the capacity to manage budgets, staff and programs, preferably with an international NGO working on both development and humanitarian programs
- Proven leadership ability including strong people management skills, the ability to respond effectively to challenges and experience leading complex strategic change
- Proven capacity to develop external relationships as well as representational and networking skills, to further the goals of CARE InternationalStrong initiative and drive with a demonstrated record of innovation
- Strong organisational and project management skills as well as the ability to deliver quality results within deadlines
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in project design and proposal preparation, program and project management and of current best practice development approaches, tools and methodologies
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field will be highly regarded
- Demonstrated understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment and a commitment to CARE International’s approach and values including ethnic diversity and cultural sensitivity
