Overview:

ICRW Africa is seeking the services of a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist to work on a threeyear multi-country project focusing on young mothers and early childhood development. The position is tenable in Kenya. The M&E Specialist will conceive, lead, and oversee monitoring and evaluation of projects focusing on gender-based violence and inclusive economic empowerment. S/he will be in charge of the design and delivery of qualitative and quantitative metrics and indicators to capture and assess the project’s impacts, as well as the day-to-day monitoring of project implementation. A minimum of 20-25% travel will be required.

Education:

Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Public Health, Behavioral Sciences, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Demography, International Development, Anthropology). Formal certification in multi-method evaluation and monitoring approaches would be an advantage.

Primary Duties:

Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation:

Works in multi-disciplinary teams to lead, design, supervise, and undertake mixed-methods research encompassing innovative qualitative methods and quantitative surveys. Analyzes primary and secondary data using appropriate methods, and writes incisive products for diverse audiences, including research reports, peer-reviewed publications, and other outputs, such as policy briefs and reader-friendly blogs. Develops conceptual models and M&E frameworks to guide research and program evaluation. Serves as evaluation focal point and works under general direction, seeking

Representation:

Maintains professional expertise and recognition outside of ICRW through publishing and speaking in relevant forums. Conducts limited negotiations and continued cultivation of existing and new relationships, partners, and donors.

Skills:

  • Minimum four years of post-graduate experience conducting research and evaluation internationally, with a focus on developing countries, and particularly on women’s economic empowerment issues.
  • Extensive experience in the design and conduct of formative, operations and evaluation research on women’s economic empowerment, social protection, and SRHR
  • Experience in learning agenda development and implementation
  • Experience with designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation frameworks and methods for projects of varying types and sizes.
  • Experience in strengthening the capacity of partner organizations to develop theories of change, and M&E frameworks, with indicators and tools for data collection and storage.
  • Quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis skills, including expertise with one or more of the following analytical software packages: SPSS, STATA, AtlasTi, NVivo.
  • Ability to effectively manage and juggle multiple projects, including staffing, work plans, deliverables, timelines, and budgets.
  • Demonstrated successful project management skills, along with maturity, diplomacy, and independence to work effectively with in-country partners, donors, and project staff
  • Strong strategic sense for business development, committed to developing an innovative research and program base.
  • Strong networking and negotiation skills in order to identify, cultivate, and sustain viable relationships with donors and other partners as well as communicate knowledgeably about project concepts, progress, and impact
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Experience leading research projects funded by fast-paced foundations and bilateral agencies Compensation Information:

The pay range for this position is Kes 4,184,900 – Kes 5,231,100 per year (Kes 349,000 – 435,925 per month), however, actual offer will be based on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, experience, qualifications, and an assessment of internal and external equity review. This position is eligible for ICRW’s full benefits package.
